Q: My Friends Notify Me Not Working

Although my entire family has iOS 6 installed, the "Notify Me" feature does not work.  I have My Friends turned on in the notification center.  What am I missing?

iPhone 4, iOS 6

I have the same problem as yours. I also notice that location based reminder is not working too. So i check all the settings concern reminder. I found that i sync reminder with all mail accounts. So i turned if off and left it sync to only cloud on the logic that icloud is apple developed. And try do some reminder and notify me again, it suddenly working. I am not sure which mail cause the problem. If this solution work for you, you can try resync each one at a time. But i dont care about syncing reminder to my email anyway. Hope you all can fix this problem.

    Hi everyone,

I seem to have discovered the answer. After using the find friends app on iOS6 in the past, I too noticed that notifications seemed to stop on iOS7 on my iPhone 5. Up until now I've never been able to get this working.

My wife & I used to use the app on our phones, I discovered that she'd been quitting the app through the multitasking interface, which usually helps to speed the iPhone up and is generally good practice when not using apps running in the background. She now quits all other apps, except the find friends app.

I'd have thought since find friends is an apple app, quitting it would have kept notifications running. It seems that the app has to be actually running on both phones for the notifications to work properly (i.e. as opposed to just being installed).  When I relaunched the app on my wife's phone, and setup some test notifications - it worked again... for the 1st time on iOS7.

Here's a few things to check:

    1. check that location services are turned on
    2. check that 'background app refresh' isn't turned off for the find friends app (settings > general)
    3. most importantly - check the app is launched and running in the background (double tap the home/circular button on the phone to see the multitasking menu)

For more help, click on 'me' in the app, scroll to 'help' at the bottom, and click 'if you're not receiving alerts'.  I've noticed this advice is in the help section of the app, but doesn't appear to be on the web.. certainly not here where I'd expect to find it: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4008 (a search for the words 'multi/multitasking/quit' on this page don't reveal answers).

Let me know if this worked for you, I'm finally happy with iOS7 as this was really bugging me when it wasn't working.  Apple, you need to sort this annoyance out, make the notifications work when the app is shut down.. as the phrase 'background app refresh' would suggest. Also, put the app help on the web also, not just in the app. People usually look on the web for an answer, no the app help section. I found this by chance, as the help section is not in an intuitive location within the app.

We are both using a 16Gb iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.6, find friends app v3.0 (3A77)

Apple is falling apart. They won't fix something unless a ton of people complain about it. For example, the geo fence function of reminders took almost a year before they decided to help it function again. I was a huge apple fan because they made stuff that actually worked. I second your request to make it work when it isn't currently open on both phones. That's just illogical to expect someone to have that app running when you'd like to be notified.
