Sounds not working after iOS 6 upgrade

So I upgraded to iOS 6 on the day it came out, and for a while, things seemed to be working fine. Today though (day after upgrade) some sounds aren't working. It's funny, though, because there are several places where it does work. For instance, it works in iTunes, iTunes U (viewing a video), Netflix, and several other apps. It doesn't work in other places though. The first place I noticed it was that the iPad stopped making the lock noise, and now I'm noticing it in several apps as well (Jetpack Joyride and Super Hexagon... Jetpack has already gotten an iOS 6 update, though). Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.

Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

Hi there,

I was experiencing the same thing... I was using my iPad to read jibjab jr books to my daughter, but the sound wasn't working. The sound wasn't working in Reeder for embedded audio and video, nor was the sound working in a number of games.

I didn't have any music on my ipad, no need. But I turned on itunes match and launched a song. iTunes work, as so did the sound on my apps and games. Does your itunes work?

Your notifications are most likely muted. This happened to me once, too - I thought my iPad was broken! To fix this, you have two options:

1) This option is if you have the slide switch on the side set to mute the iPad. To fix it, just slide the switch to turn mute off.

2) If you have the slide switch set to orientation lock, you will need to go to the multitasking menu by either swiping up with five fingers or double-clicking the home button. Then swipe your finger right so you go to the left of your app list. On the left side, tap the volume icon button. This turns mute on/off. Make sure that it says "Mute Off" beneath the play/pause button.

I think it must have been the muted notifications. That's bizarre that muting notifications will mute music in some apps but not others. I'll have to keep that in mind in the future. The only thing I'm not sure of is how it got muted, because I use the side switch to lock orientation. Pity that I ended up factory resetting my iPad just to find the out.
