How to turn on Siri on iPod Touch 4G? iOS 6.0 updated

Updated to iOS 6.0. No screen came up to ask if I wanted Siri turned on. I can't find a way to turn it on now. Help? I don't want to have to reset my iPod Touch.

Okay, thanks to all these posts! I would have really liked it if people had not replied with rude comments, but any help is appreciated. Alright, some of you are asking why the **** I thought Siri would be on iPod Touch 4G. Well, when I updated my iPod, a "What's New" list showed up and in it came Siri. Not all of it, but the basics. I've also seen various tutorials on YouTube on turning on Siri on the iPod Touch 4G. So, next time, for those of you who imagine me stupid for asking this question, find out the reasoning behind a question and try to comprehend others. No use in calling someone stupid, or inferring it, without knowing what they are really like.

Thanks.

Before you get a complex about it, no one was calling you stupid. No need to be so overly sensitive.

In teh "Whats new" section, it also shows that is only on the ipod touch 5th gen.

" Alright, some of you are asking why the **** I thought Siri would be on iPod Touch 4G"

No one asked where the ***** anything. Again why so sensitive.

I asked why you thought this becasue I wanted to know why you thought this.

Maybe you should: "find out the reasoning behind a question and try to comprehend others."

Hey, you can, eventually, find areas where apple specifies that Siri is only for the iPod Touch 5th gen but they weren't very clear, at all, on the new features page http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/

"iOS 6 gives you more features to make the things you do every day even better. It’s free and easy to upgrade wirelessly on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch."

Under that heading it has icons for your new features including Siri, clear eh.....

It's all fine for the tech savvy adults who read through every post in the lead up to the launch etc etc but for my 10 year old who saw the iOS6 update saying it came with Siri for ipod touch and waited patiently while it downloaded and installed it was a big let down.

It feels like they're selling the fully featured iOS6 upgrade with all the bells and whistles and then saying, what didn't you read the fine print or completely separate article that says many of these features wont actually work on your device because, let's be honest here, we don't want to put them on our older devices, please buy the new device, cha-ching...

Apple dropping the public relations ball imo, they have avid fans, but these tiny miscommunications and let downs are the torture of a thousand cuts that'll at the very least turn people ambivalent, like leaving siri off the iPad originally, realise when you have something people want and give it to your fans (especially the young ones) what is the cost of putting siri on ipod touch 4's ?

While I understand that your 10 year old may be disappointed, there is no trickery here. iOS 6 was a free upgrade, so no one was sold something fraudulently. To be sure there are no other misconceptions, you can see the full compatibility list here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5457

And contrary to your belief, the lack of Siri on the 4G ipod touch is NOT a marketing, but rather a technical decision. The hardware on the 4g cannot support Siri. The cost of putting Siri on the 4g is the cost of replacing the 4g with a 5g iPod which is capable of running Siri. Again this is not marketing, it is a technical reality.

You BELIEVE it's a technical constraint, you don't KNOW that.

Note how capitalising even one word in a sentence makes your comments look. Lets keep our comments in lower case the implied tone is far friendlier 🙂

I accept that the support article you linked does make the availability of siri clear.

It could still be a marketing decision though, do you really believe the 2nd gen IPAD didn't have the grunt to run siri....

And just because money isn't involved doesn't mean things are being 'sold' to you, you may be sold on a concept etc etc, sold is a good term though especially if the only way to get the feature you were after turns out to be spending more money.

ipod 4G most certainly has enough power to run Siri. Siri relies on the power of internet servers, not the client. But installing it via iOS6 on older devices does not drive sales of new Apple hardware.

On youtube you can see Siri running on old (jailbroken) devices.

It would be nice if Apple just made it available to past devices as an app for sale, though. "Free with new hardware, you pay for it on your old hardware". My son was also disappointed. He would pay $10 for Siri, he won't spend $300 for a new ipod anytime soon. So that is my suggestion to Apple. Call it "Siri Classic" or something if needed.

Just upgraded, and in what's new it said Siri. So someone that's not an apple fanboy and doesn't read all the blogs would naturally assume that they're getting what it says on the screen. I wonder how difficult it would be for apple to personalize the what's new section to each generation device? I mean they're already collecting all this data on us they know what devices we have.

So basically the only thing they will update on older devices are things they can make money off of, and in the case of Siri, they want you to buy a new device. I'm done drinking the punch. My 4g will be the last Apple product I buy. And no, not just because of Siri. But look at these new devices, lets extend it vertically? Such a ridiculous shape! Lol! Aging boring OS. So they have a chance to make existing customers happy, give em a treat? Nope, not Apple!
