I just posted a similar Question before. I asked if its worth the hasssle or risk to do it. I came accross a couple of videos on youtube showing how to do it using itunes. but what if you updated your phone over wi fi?
So im not sure its so simple if you didnt do it with itunes. Hope to hear some feeback. on this thread
I had a backup on my mac but did the update on WiFi. Now I cannot connect my phone to my mac because it requires a newer version of itunes. The newer version of itunes is not compatible with my mac (10.5.8) :-(
Come on Apple. I bought your stuff because it just worked. Now things don't work, and I cannot even connect my ecosystem together. This *****.
I came here to ask the same thing. I do NOT like the new Maps ap and much prefered Google Maps. I miss Street view and the detail I used to have. Now i just get blurry images for many places. and having an old 3G phone means I dont even get the voice navigation. Wish I had known all this before accepting the update.
Is there an easy way of going back to IOS 5? Or is it too difficult. Am not a happy bunny.
Alternatively, any word of Google doing a download version of their ap so it can be reinstalled? If there is one I cant find it.
I totally agree! I have just managed to downgrade to 5.1.1 again through this link (might get pulled):
http://techglobex.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/downgrade-from-ios-6-beta-firmware-to.h tml
What I did was :
1. Make sure I was on itunes 10..6.3.25
2. Dowloaded 5.1.1 from the link
3. Connected my phone to itunes
4. Held the shift key down and then pressed 'update'
5. Found the 5.1.1 download and clicked open.
6. Then let it do its work.
7. I then had to restore my phone from the back up I made before I upgraded to 6. It offered icloud or computer and I chose computer.
8. just let it run - it then asked me for a new passcode and then went on to download all my apps/music/photos etc.
I am now back with google maps working as well as youtube. Everything is as it was 🙂
Hope this helps but don't blame me if you have problems - maybe I have been lucky.
tks for that. may give it a go. but i notice ive got itunes 10.7. so will read a bit more.
glad it worked for you
Not sure if it will work with 10.7 but I can't see why not. Did you back up before you upgraded?
yes. the video seems to suggest 5.1 may still be selectable without downloading it. ill wait a couple of days anyway, because from what I am hearing and reading, the outcry over this Maps is so big that hopefully Apple will do something about it.
If you have a 4s then I would wait. If it's a 4 then the maps are rubbish anyway. No turn by turn. No flyover, very poor resolution and youtube gone as well. Also no panorama in the camera.
What you get on the iphone 4 does not outweigh what you lose in my opinion.
Alas, I have but a humble 3Gs so the upgrade is generally bad, and has very little good, except perhaps for a Do Not Disturb sign.
of course, you can at least download the Youtube ap, which some say is actually better than the default one under 5.1
that gives me some hope
all the other threads say no way
ios5 worked so much better than 6 on my 3gs
I have also managed to revert back to iOS 5 after updating.
Seems it's much easier to do on a Mac since completely removing iTunes 10.7 is easier to do on Mac than PC.
If you're using PC you need to resolve issues with the host files which iTunes also updates. Google can teach you this.
Good luck on recovering the actual "world's most advanced operating system".
So has anyone reverted back to 5.1 iOS while using iTunes 10.7 on a PC? One day with iOS 6 and I despise it...battery life is garbage and no Google Maps is reason enough to ditch it.
I also want to revert back to ios 5.1. The previous map gave transit information but in ios 6 you have to purchase a 3rd party app that may or may not have accurate info
People on the forums warn that restoring to 5.1 could permanently screw up device. Is this accurate?
Yes it is most definitely accurate that restoring 5.1.1 could cause your phone to become an unusable brick.
Apple does not support downgrading, so if you do it, you are on your own if you get into trouble.
