iphone 4s auto brightness not working after ios 6 update, please apple help me to fix the problem........
iPhone 4S, iOS 6
Hi I too have a 4S but auto brightness does work with a little adjustment. If you go into brightness in your settings what you must do is slide the brightness scale to the left ie dimmer. Slide this to the point at which even in the darkest room you would not want it too dim. What I have found on mine that now the phone will adjust from the brightest possible settings all the way down to what you have set as the darkest point. Also you will notice that brightness does not change instantly but gradually over a few seconds. I thought mine was broken too but it does work!
I have the same problem, however mine also has the added feature of setting the brightness to the lowest when I lock my phone. I have tried mrcoates14 method but does not seem to work. Finally, the acing on the cake is that my keyboard is now the slow as a snail after the update. I can't really believe that apple has released a software update with so many bugs, I had some before but not this many. I'm begging to wonder if apple is down falling from its standards that Jobs set.
Same here, seems very touchy. I set it back to half way, and it'll be fine for a while, and then all of a sudden it'll start going up to full whack again, and then it starts caning the battery!! What annoys me is that it was fine in 5.1.1.
Set the brightness bar to almost off leave autobrightness switched on it should work
Yes! Your method has worked for me thanks!
I just spoke with AppleCare over the phone and together we did a bunch of things that didn't work. Last effort was to restore and reinstall. IT STILL DOESN'T WORK! I also noticed that my coworker's iphone is having the same issue. I wonder if this is an iso 6 bug?
The last remaining option is getting a replacement from the Apple Store. (Thanks to AppleCare) This issue is not that big of a pain in the butt, but it stinks looking at your phone in the middle of the night and being completely blinded until you have to manually adjust the brightness settings.
Ahh, that seemed to have done the trick for me. I have a new 5 and it wasn't working right for me either.
Yeah ! I have the same problem at first i thought that its nothin too big !
But last night i compared my 4S Autobrightness with that of my sister's iPhone 4
The result was that her iPhone's autobrightness is working absolutely fine !
I thought her iPhone is broke coz it was lookin like too dim in front if my 4S but after that i noticed that its mine iphone which is not working !
Really iOS 6 has disappointed us to a gr8 xtent

Guys!! At least I found the answer to this problem, let me explain you ate by step
1.- go to setting
2.- open brightness
3.- place the auto brightness bar where you wish will be the minimal brightness on your iPhone, on the night when there is a minimal light around you, auto brightness will move to the place where you previously you sets the brightness bar
I now that its a great trouble, iOS 6 has amazing features but there is a several deficiencies
I hope my answer can help every body here
can't get it works!
you mean to set the auto brightness bar where you wish in the dark?
Mine doesn't work either. I have a 4s. It worked flawlessly on ios 5. Now when I set the auto it moves all the time on its own. Sometimes it gets stuck on the lowest and I have to adjust it back up again. *****.
Took me a good while, but I think i've found the solution...
Open your multitasking menu, ane make sure that "Passbook" app is closed... Seem to work very well after that, in fact much better than in iOS 5.
Disabling Siri and back worked for me

mrcoates14 is right, it did work on mine, I have a 4S 64GB and after the re-calibration it's working perfectly. Thanks for the input and now my batteries are going to last a bit 😉
