Mac mini won't shut down

Ever since updating to OSX 10.8.2, my Mac mini won't shut down. I get a message saying there was a problem and the computer will restart in a few seconds or I can press any button to resume start up right away. The message is not specific nor does provide a code or any numbers that I can use to troubleshoot my problem. Anyone else experiencing the same thing? I purchased my Mac Mini new online via the Apple Store in May of 2012. I upgraded to the 2.7GHz I7 w/ 16GB DDR3 running the stock 500GB HD & added the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G 126GB SSD.

I just talked to Apple Support over the phone because I had the same problem. After that, it went from bad to worse. Now I can't boot up the computer! They recommened I take the computer to a genius bar at an Apple Store so they can do diagnostics on the hard drive. I will let you know how that goes... hopefully we'll get a simple solution to this problem.

I just installed mountain lion on both my late 2008 macbook and my mac mini which I bought in mid-2011 (it had just come out).

Am very happy with mountain lion except that I notice that my mac mini won't shut down and keeps restarting as described in this thread. It can't be a problem with the hardware I think as this never happened before and only began happening with mountain lion as soon as I installed it. Plus other people are describing exactly the same thing.

I hope Apple has this on their radar screen and fixes it in a future update.

Right now the only way to really shut down my mac mini seems to be to press the power button.
