not recognizing ipod

I've updated my software to iOS6 and after doing so, my iTunes isn't recognizing my iPod. It worked before the update.. I've tried everything from restarting, reinstalling, it wont even charge on my computer. Yet, when I plug it into a wall outlet, it charges. It makes a quick 3 beat noise after i plug it in to my laptop (a PC)

Please help!
