I just held my phone 1 ft from the access point and it picked it up. I have a feeling we have an antenna issue now.

    EDIT:

I have an Airport Extreme and a Time Capsule (2 separate networks). The phone will pick up both of them and use them, if I am within 6 feet. Outside of that, nothing.

    I have a black 64gb iPhone 5.

I have just got the new iphone 5. I can see the wifi networks but I get 'unable to connect' message when I put in the password... What's going on? Any ideas how to fix?

This same thing was happening to me wth both 4s' we have in the house.

See everything, can not connect to ANYTHING, open, secure, nothing.

Went back to 5.1.1 and it works.

This is clearly an issue with OS6, and when 5 issues are starting to pop up, maybe now the 3rd party news sites will do customers some service and COVER this very big issue.  Instead of ignoring it like Apple would like them to.

Same here - iPhone 5 and no ability to connect to my wifi - just refuses. I tried turning the wifi on and off on the phone and that did nothing - reset the network and no difference.

Thinking of taking it to the Apple store tomorrow so they can try.

Slightly different problem, I couldn't get my ip4 and ip3 to tether to each other. I went into 'settings-general-reset-reset network settings' which solved the problem. Using both on iOS 6. Hope it helps.

Update - the phone has full reboot crashed now 3 times in an hour while texting.

Definitely taking it to Apple today or tomorrow.

My iPhone 5 sees my router SSID, but when I connect, it just spins endlessly and never connects, my iPhone 4 running on 6.0 connects normally with no problems.

    The Holy Mecha of Wifi

Turn router off then on Try turning your wireless router off then back on.

Change or turn off wireless security You may want to try toggling the settings on your wireless router, switching from WPA to WEP or vice versa, or, as a last resort, turning wireless security off altogether. For AirPort routers, this can be accomplished with the AirPort Admin Utility. For other routers, this can usually be accomplished by accessing the router’s configuration page — open a browser and enter the address 192.168.1.1.

Reset network settings on iPad. On your iPad, open Settings, then navigate to “General” in the left-hand pane. Scroll down and tap Reset, then select “Reset Network Settings.” This will delete any stored WiFi passwords and other information, but may result in a more stable connection.

Adjust brightness upward. Oddly, a number of users have found that they can resolve this issue by simply adjusting the iPad’s brightness level upward and off the lowest setting. To do this, tap Settings, then select “Brightness & Wallpaper” from the left-hand pane. Slide the brightness bar upward, then wait 1-2 minutes and check for an improvement in signal strength. Speculation holds that a power delivery issue associated with the screen brightness affects Wi-Fi.

Change thresholds in router settings. Access your routers configuration screen (for most routers, open a browser and enter the address 192.168.1.1), then change the fragmentation threshold and the CTS/RTS threshold as described here. Some users have found success with the settings Fragmentation= 2048, RTS = 512.

Change 802.11 spec on router. Try changing your router’s wireless spec mode from B, G and N to G only or vice versa. For AirPort routers, this can be accomplished with the AirPort Admin Utility. For other routers, this can usually be accomplished by accessing the router’s configuration page — open a browser and enter the address 192.168.1.1.

Switch routers. Although a far-from-ideal solution, some users have found success with switching to a different wireless router.

Turn off “Ask to Join Networks.” To do so, tap Settings on your iPad, then select “Wi-Fi” from the left-hand pane. Slide “Ask to Join Networks” to off. Speculation holds that leaving this option on causes the iPad to constantly seek networks, resulting in some type of interference with the network to which it is connected.

Forget network then rejoin. Tap Settings on your iPad, then select Wi-Fi from the left-hand pane. Choose the network with which you are experiencing difficulty, then select “Forget this network.” Go back to the previous screen and rejoin the network.

Turn off Bluetooth. Some users report that, perhaps due to interference issues, turning off Bluetooth can boost Wi-Fi signal strength. To do so, tap Settings then tap General in the left-hand pane. Tap Bluetooth in the right-hand pane, then slide to off.

GOT YOUR ANSWER FOR YOUR I5 WIFI ISSUE.                                                                                             I had the same problem on my I5 get the wifi icon reconises the password but no download connection am with virgin broadband, Rang apple they said could be a faulty, virgin said its to do with your phone. as I have I4S with the ios 6 software update works fine.

Iv managed to solve the problem after two days of technical work if your wifi encryption is on WPA it will not connect you need to change the wireless router settings to WEP it will  work however your connection speed will be half. Example if you have 30mb you will get around 14/15 mb still no good. If you disable your security ie: have it open with no password you will get full speed also I find it if your quite away from your router you will get a faster download speed when its disable, I have tested it on both I4s and I5 with speedtest app SEE THE DIFFERENCE

    Free technical advice for apple

    Hope this helps

I just purchased an Iphone 5 for my wife.  It's my first experience with an Iphone and I'm not impressed.  The support for Iphone is not very good and they software is worst than Microsoft.  You would think a trillion dollar company could introduce their latest and greatest with basic functions.  Where's the answers to the problems so many people seem to have?
