Every so often, I hear a sound from my iPad. I have checked all the settings I can find for sounds, and cannot find this sound associated with an app or service. It's a sound wit three bleeps, with the second and third bleep each being a little higher in tone than the devious one. It's not too frustrating, but I would like to figure out what's going on...

This tri-tone is the default calendar notification sound. If its not this, you can check what it is by going to settings/sound, and looking to see if the words tri-tone is next to anything e.g ringtone.

Yes, that's one of the things I looked at. I thought I had all the sounds set to something other than the 'tri-tone' one, but went back and saw it was set for text messaging. Is that even possible on my iPad, since I only have wi-fi, no 3G or 4g?

It actually is, with iMessage, which is a communicator between ios devices
My iPad makes a three toned sound occasionally, and I can't figure out what it is.
