LaCie Drive problems - SOLVED!!!!!
Some of you may be aware of my continued battle with LaCie and Apple regarding the failure of both my Primary and Backup drives after only a short period, resulting in the loss of ALL my recent work, loss of income and loss of my new showreel...
I've been going to the Apple centre in London numerous times to try to find a solution, and the only thing that they could come up with was to go to a data recovery company, which is not really an option as it costs thousands and they can't guarantee 100% recovery. I bought Disc Warrior - No Luck... doesn't fix it.
I've been phoning LaCie direct to see if there was a technical boffin who might
know something... No luck...
I heard a rumour on the internet about the power supply that is packaged with the mid-sized D2 Big Discs, outputing the wrong voltage/ampage to the drive... thus causing a constant spindown problem... when i mentioned this to both the Apple Tech help people and the LaCie Tech help people, they both replied something along the lines of - "Oooohh, No. That's not the problem.... That CAN'T be the problem... that's ridiculous."
Today... i dropped in (un-arranged) at the main LaCie distribution offices in London and spoke to the tech support there (Only ONE guy if you're wondering!) and with a tear in my eye, a last ditch desperate attempt to find a solution... he told me to go to data-recovery too... Pah! After i mentioned the power unit theory... he looked at me like i was an idiot... but must have felt really sorry for me... so he gave me a power-unit for the 1Tb Big Disc extreme which has a higher voltage/ampage output...
Voila!!! I'm happy to say that both my drives now purr away like a cat sunbathing on a sun-drenched patio, with a nice saucer of milk and a belly full of fresh tuna... they purr... and the sound is music to my ears...
I now have access to ALL my work, ALL my media... Everything... thanks to a rumour i picked up on the internet.
The moral of this story??? Who knows... but I guess it's best to listen to your fellow forum contributors, and sometimes ignore the crap that PAID tech help people give you...
Aaahhh... i feel so much better now...
