Clamshell Mode Doesn't Work after Upgrade to 10.8.2

After I upgrade to 10.8.2 yesterday, my MBA doesn't work in clamshell mode. As soon as it is waken with USB keyboard, it turns itself off in a few second. I need to leave the display open in order to use the external display.

I'm having the same issue with my late 2011 13" MBP and it's driving me crazy.

When I wake the computer with the external keyboard (with the lid closed and the external monitor connected) it will just turn on the screen of the external monitor, which remains black, and then promptly goes into energy saver mode.

The only way to use the external monitor is with the lid open.

I'm hoping someone finds a solution soon.

Another "me too," with 13" two month old Macbook Pro. My external monitor keeps turning off, I don't get full screen on the external monitor in clamshell which I did before the upgrade. And then the external monitor goes into energy saver mode. Good thing I don't have rush projects to work on. Oh wait, I am working on rush projects...

So an update on the troubleshooting I've done so far:

Reinstalling ML does not help. I took the dive, and considering I did an upgrade to ML from Lion, I thought it might have been some residual setting, file or whatnot. Day 1 into brand new Mountain Lion install, and it still does the same thing.

I have an LED Cinema Display (27"). When I close the lid after plugging the monitor in, the computer doesn't freeze immediately. During the time you'd expect that familiar blue screen to fade in/out, I can still use the mouse, though WindowServer seems to be completely locked up. Then, everything goes poof - computer goes to energy saver mode, no way to wake up, can't even unplug monitor to get things working again.

Here is my system log from when I switched to clamshell up until I got ****** and did a hard reset.

That was something I first did as well. But no luck. It's actually a command to do the opposite. Before 10.8.2, with that command, I can leave the laptop screen opened but disabled with external keyboard, mouse and monitor. It helps the ventilation for my MBA. But after 10.8.2, it doesn't work any more. And it doesn't help the clamshell mode either. Sigh...

Sorry for the false hope guys. After doing this I had rebooted (and closed the lid) and it booted up fine and stayed in clamshell mode. However when I later tried to close the lid (without rebooting) and awakened the monitor with the keyboard/mouse, the external display came on for a few seconds then the machine went back to sleep. It kept cycling awake and asleep after this. Bottom line is, I don't know if the nvram command made it possible to use clamshell mode upon boot or if it was already working that way with Mountain Lion/10.8.2.
