Oct 5, 2012 3:41 PM in response to Eric Maierby yves_k,Bluetooth also happens to use AES encryption. Maybe the Bluetooth and WiFi AES encryption methods are interfering with each other (e.g., if some programmer overwrites the WiFi key with the Bluetooth one).

Oct 5, 2012 3:43 PM in response to Shaddowby Shaddow,WOW. I deleted the car from my phone and deleted the phone from the car (I had replaced up till now) and everything is fine, even after using bluetooth in the car without cycling it afterwards.

Oct 5, 2012 4:35 PM in response to tobifsby C4RLOCO,This just came in:
China Labor Watch is reporting that another Foxconn strike broke out on Friday at the Zhengzhou factory in China. The report says 3,000 to 4,000 Foxconn (2038) are complaining about Apple’s (AAPL) demanding quality standards for the iPhone 5. China Labor Watch further reports that workers are under immense pressure to deliver iPhone 5′s without receiving adequate training on how to improve yield rates.

That's good news. Fingers crossed it will stay fixed and their isn't some "slow" leak.

Same here... I just noticed my WifFi was *slightly less utterly unusable* with Bluetooth off so we're all exploring just to see if there's a relationship.

That makes sense. I've spent a lot of time in Chinese factories '92 - '03. The workers tend to be quite young and have come from the backwoods of China. I imagine Foxxconn gets the cream of the crop, but you still have to teach them absolutely everything and carefully monitor their output. They probably had to hire a ton of them in a short time.
I'm thinking I'll hold off on the iPad Mini for awhile

Oct 5, 2012 5:01 PM in response to Brent M.by Alma M,@ Brent M - I will call apple support to inform them of the problems I had & have with my 5. I will also mention what iOS6 did to my 4s. I would love to get a perfectly working 5, I'm afraid that if it gets replaced it might be worse. The only problem will be if they have me go thru the hoops (restart, set up as new, etc), because my cellphone is my home phone.
What ***** is one of my co-workers has a 5 but does not seem to have any problems. And this his 2nd one. He had gotten it replaced due to scratches. lol.
This part is in reference to the Bluetooth part - I never turned on BT until yesterday & my 5 still works. I synced it with my car yesterday then turned it off when I got home.
OH! I also noticed when I had an Incipio phone case from ATT (it had a backplate that was metallic), the wifi range diminished greatly. I replaced it with a rubber one and the range got better.

Oct 5, 2012 5:37 PM in response to Dialdnby sking90,I have been dealing with slow wifi as well. I had the phone replaced and the second one is just the same. I tried every suggestion I could find online but no luck. I was able to tweak the settings on my router and am now averaging about 10.5 Mbps download speed. Not as good as the 30Mbps I get from my iphone 4 and iPad 3 but way better than the 0.5Mbps I was getting. If anyone wants to try it here's my setup:
Linksys WRT610n
5GHz channel
WPA2/AES encryption
Network mode: Wireless N only
Channel width: Auto (20MHz or 40MHz)
AP Isolation: disabled
Frame Burst: disabled
Basic rate 1-2 Mbps
Transmission rate: auto
N transmission rate: 13.5 Mbps
Transmission power: high
CTS protection mode: disabled
If I try to enable frame burst or CTS protection, set basic rate to auto, or I set N-transmission higher than 13.5Mbps my speed immediately falls back to 0.5Mbps. I have all my other devices on the 2.4GHz channel. Only the iPhone 5 is on the 5GHz.

Oct 5, 2012 5:43 PM in response to tobifsby 73themaster,I'm in Australia using a Vivid Wirless home gateway router, no good with the iphone 5. Very very Slow, <0.5 MBps download speeds.
Just plugged it into my old 3G enabled router, the downloads work fine.
Interesting though is that the problem I was having was with the downloads, but the uploads conversely were super super fast.
On the other router that is no longer the case.
I also have my old iphone 4 and 2 ipads connected to the Vivid gateway and they are working fine, the problem is just with the iphone 5.
So I guess I'll just run 2 home networks for a while, but definitely seems like it's a compatability issue with some networks and hopefully it will get sorted out soon...
