Here's an interesting twist on this WiFi problem. Key point is my phones are all Verizon phones. My path down this sorry road started with my 4s just days after the release of iOS6. Previously my 4S never had any WiFi connection issues. I upgraded to 6 and then, while I could "connect" to my company's wireless network NO data would pass in either direction. I went through all the off/on, system reset, network forget, etc. etc. none of which worked. After an hour on the phone with Apple Care they tell me to go swap out the phone.

I go swap out the 4s, retreive my backup from the cloud, update to iOS6 and return to my office the next day and again, it will "connect" but not pass any data. This all on an encrypted network. What's really weird is in my company there are several other iphone owners. NONE OF THEM are having the same problem and all of them upgraded to iOS6. The only difference is they are all ATT&T.

Now, we go forward just a few days, my shiney new iPhone 5 arrives. I retreive my cloud data and I'm back at the office the next day. Keep in mind this now the THIRD iPhone running iOS6 I'm trying to connect with. You guessed it, my new iPhone 5 will NOT pass data through the network.

Two days ago our contracted IT support provider was in doing upgrades so I pounced on him. He took my phone for an hour of testing. He could see where it was trying to connect to the system, and where a connection was established but then no data could be pushed through. He's never seen anything like it.

Now we go to yesterday. My CEO has his shiney new iPhone 5 and I'm sitting in his office as he's going through the setup. He passes me the phone to enter our WiFi password and get him going. I tell him not to hold his breath. I enter the WiFi code, connection is established and then, to my stunned amazement, his phone is passing data back and forth without issue. After recovering, I verfiy the network settings on his phone exactly match mine. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IN THE TWO DEVICES IS HIS IS AN ATT&T MODEL.

I don't know what to make of all this. I'm going to the Apple store today to exchange my phone and I'm NOT going to upgrade to iOS6 nor am I going to load my back-up data. First, I'm just going to try the connections using iOS5 and see what happens.

Since Verizon models do not allow simultaneous voice and data use, it makes me wonder if there is some firmware conflict between the wifi and cellular radios........    My AT&T model IS also working fine.

I had the same issue and figured out the issue.  Its software.  When the Iphone is connected to an airport express/extreme it will have no issue, but when you move to a cisco wifi, netgear wifi, etc the wifi issue comes back.  the software is having a HUGE issues communicating with non-apple wifi connections.

This is the same issue I am having.

The reason i noticed this is because having an exchange account, i noticed that i was not recieving push messages. when i push either the front button or the top button... i see a small circle instead of the WiFi icon, then the wifi icon appears and i start getting push emails again.

as soon as I "wake up" my phone... seems like shortly after that things start working again... but if my phone locks... i stop getting push emails.

I wish this were the case for my situation, but I have the most recent AirPort Extreme and I've configured it in as many different was as I can yet I still cannot muster more that 768 kbps. I suspect the issue is a combination of hardware/chip set and OS. The question is whether or not a software fix will eliminate the problem across the board. Very happy though that you and some others are up to speed and working!

I get the same slow speed on either one of my routers.  A 3 day old Apple Extrreme and a dual band Netgear running DD-WRT.  It seems now I get slow speed 500 kbps and then a few hours of 10 mbps.  Connecting with either router regardless of secruity (OPEN/WPA/WPA2) has no repeatable impact/improvement.

I would have assume Apple talking to Apple would solve the issue.  Alas, I was wrong.

Same here... Running latest (5th) gen AirPort Extreme.  Has anyone tried downgrading the firmware on the AE? Just curious if this improved anything or not...

Been having this issue since I received the iPhone 5 on 9/21.  When I received my iPhone and attempted to restore from back up using my home network, I was wondering why all of my apps were stuck on downloading.  Switching to LTE they all started downloading away.  I contacted apple support weeks ago, and they suggested I go to the Apple Store, which I have no time currently.

Whenever I attempt to connect to a network that is using WPA2, and often WPA, I get connected to the network with 0 data speed, or I can not connect to the network at all.  If I am able to connect to the network and attempt to load a page, it spins for ever and I can see the phone cycling through Wifi (which is at 5 bars) and LTE, and will eventually go to LTE and load off of that.

I called in to Apple support and they have arranged to send me a new iPhone 5, which should be here this week hopefully.  I'll post when I see if this resolves the issue.

My current unit has the following first 4 wifi address - 68:96.

What are you guys using to track data transfer rates?

I am having the same issue, little or no wifi. When my ipad sits next to the iphone the ipad has perfectly fine wifi reception, iphone 5 has little, sometimes none.

    Steflr -

You can download the Speed Test app which will test your speeds. The app also saves the test results by default so you can reference them later if desired.

WIFI Fix - Not realy a fix, but may help Apple Engineers on theire Root Cause Analysis.

When connecting to the power plug, WiFi works as on "day one" - no performance issue.

Running from Battery has performance issue, posted hundered time here.

Maybe someone else, having the WiFi issue can try and confirm my experience.

No sure, if this has already been addressed here, since I didn't read through all the 108 posts.

Let me know you test results, when connecting your Iphone5 to the power plug.

If this can be confirmed by some of us, Iphone 5 may have an issue with internal supply voltage

    of the WiFi circuitry.

Be aware, we are all Beta Tester

    Graveman,

My issues occur with the power cord connected or not. This is my second iPhone 5 (the first did fine with wifi, but the SIM card connection failed).

Speedtest.net app works well and is very popular.

did you try a restore as new

sometimes all the data doesnt make it on the update and if you restore it might work

even the new iphone 5 has wifi issues

    sometimes works if restored

if does not work i would try to contact router manufacturer

with all the symtoms you left i bet a restore to new will work

make sure you backup data first

and dont restore from backup because it will just put the same "possible corrupted" data on phone
