Oct 18, 2012 11:27 PM in response to tobifsby CRZ24,I have the Iphone 5 WiFi issues since release date. I have tried everything with nothing lasting very long, just short fixes. I have given up, I do wish apple would say if it's iPhone 5 or iOS 6. I did shake my phone and did hear something rattling around from the top of phone, like the other poster had. Also my voice signal never reached full bars, max is 3 out of 5. The work around that I'm using now for WiFi with success the last 3 days at full speed. Turned WEP on router, and on iPhone turned on (ask to join networks). Now when WiFi drops it asks me to join again instead of using cellular. I also found out that 20-30 seconds into a YouTube video I always loose WiFI like someone else posted. Now it drops and asks me to join the network again. Anyway I know it won't help some at work, or the people that do not want to use WEP. But if you are reaching your data limit like I was it's worth a shot. I'm watching everyday for the update like it was the iPhone 5 release announcement. Just so I can go back to WPA2 with no problems.

Oct 19, 2012 1:22 AM in response to tobifsby Bruchetto,This is clearly, most of cases, an hardware issue. I sent back to Apple my first iPhone 5 because was scuffed, 64gb black. It was working on wi-fi and car bluetooth headset perfectly, as usual worked my iPhone 4.
This one I received (Apple chipset) can't see wifi, only if I'm really near the AP (less 2 meters) I receive a poor signal. Bluetooth audio in my car is also bad and noisy. This after an iCloud restore and also a DFU reset, with the phone configured as a new one. So, as my first iPhone 5 was working with same iOS version like a bliss I can clearly suppose for hardware fault.
I called Apple and assistance seem to know about this hw problem. I've an UPS pick-up for monday, I'm going for the third iPhone, I suppose. Please say to me good luck!

Oct 19, 2012 2:06 AM in response to tobifsby Jonfun84,The general and reset network settings solution, works only temporarily.
I did this around 14:00 yesterday and my wifi at work and at home worked great.
This morning I have ran several speedtests again having joined the wirelss, and the Iphone 5 drops off almost instantly.
Resetting the network settings has resolved the issue, but I suspect the fault will persist later today, or in the morning.
.......6.0.1 please

Oct 19, 2012 2:29 AM in response to tobifsby Egg,new iphone 5, 32GB Black. Wifi issues as well. Using the same setup, my iphone 4 gave 1-2 bars in the bathroom. Now my ip5 gives 0-1 bars, and little data gets through.
Apple, please fix, so I can surf on the loo again!! Very important!!

Oct 19, 2012 2:37 AM in response to tobifsby BigKid1973,Just dropping by to say: Having the same WiFi issues:
1. sometimes it did find and connect but no throughput, wifi feels slower than 3G - setting fixed IP Adresses helped somewhat but wifi still feels slow (no matter what the signal strength is) compared to 3G
2. found out that wifi is draining battery a lot faster than it did on my 4S with iOS5. Just by stopping to use wifi I was able get from 1-2 days battery life to 2-3 days (even reached 4 with very low usage).

Oct 19, 2012 5:04 AM in response to BigKid1973by strandbiker1,I have experienced a slightly different problem. I own both an I Phone 5 and 3GS, both using IOS 6.0. When using a Mc Donald's public wifi, the 3 GS phone works fine and finds the network easily including log on. The I Phone 5, although it sees the network, but can not access it or get a log on page. When I soft reboot the I Phone 5, it then sees the AT&T wifi network and the log on page. My I Phone 5 sees my D-Link home wifi and I am using WPA2. No problems and the speedtest results are normal. The D Link is connected to a FIOS network, My I Phone 5 also sees a friend's business FIOS network, but can not join it. The little wheel keeps on spinning. This is my second I Phone 5 and unfortuantely, both have the Apple wireless hardware in it. I wish I had gotten one with the Intel chip in it.
I agree with the rest of the folks that the press needs to pick up on this as to put additional pressure on Apple to fix this issue. One can only wonder what issues will appear with the announcement next week of the I Pad mini!

Oct 19, 2012 5:05 AM in response to Jonfun84by Bruchetto,6.0.1 will do nothing for hardware issues, IMHO
Apple call center would be advised if a firmware/software update will be a solution
I say this 'cause today they promptly accepted a pick-up for change

Oct 19, 2012 5:18 AM in response to strandbiker1by WiseJD,Not sure you actually have a "Hardware Issue", but perhaps a Firmware Issue. In any case if you are at that McDonalds again try turning your Cell Data "Off" and then try again to find and join the Network. Don't do anything other than give it some time to connect. It may look like the rotating / working icon is going crazy, but don't give up just wait a little while and see if it joins.
I honestly think it is an initial Hand Shaking issue in the Wi-Fi Software / Firmware. I find it to have this issue mostly with Public Non-Secure Wi-Fi Networks. Sometimes it can't even discover that there is a Network to Join. Other times is discovers the Network, such that you can select it, but doesn't want to Join. I actually don't know if the Setting > General > Cell Data "Off" is helping ...or if doing that just allows me to give the iPhone time enough to finally complete the Hand Shaking.

Oct 19, 2012 8:46 AM in response to tobifsby Jrleeyong, why didnt apple came out with a solution yet? its so frustrating that we cant connect to wifii cause of this issue

Oct 19, 2012 8:55 AM in response to Jrleeyongby Sammi_Hatherley,I had the same issue discussed here and asked apple for a replacement. It arrived on Tuesday and wifi has been brilliant so far. Seems a replacement has fixed my issues.
I know it's not great that there is an issue in the first place but I can't fault how apple have handled my case. It arrived promptly and pickup of the broken one was delayed to give me time to choose devices. No deposit required and even a courtesy call to see if everything's ok.
Hope they release a fix soon for you all

Oct 19, 2012 9:29 AM in response to Jrleeyongby CRZ24,Sounds like apple had the same problem back in 2010 with the iPad. I don't know if they were replacing the defective iPads though.

Oct 19, 2012 10:49 AM in response to CRZ24by RobbJobRN,I hate to say it but I think this is a hardware issue. I've had the iphone 5 since launch day and have been using it heavily on my home wifi without a single issue. My problem, since day one, was a lightning port issue. It would charge but if you even bumped the phone while it was plugged in it would stop. So yesterday I had it replaced at the Apple Store after they themselves confirmed the faulty port. I returned home with my new phone and restored from the computer backup that was less than 24 hrs old. I immeadiately noticed the wifi issues described throughout this thread. The phone would connect to wifi and work for mere seconds and then would stop transmitting data, despite the full wifi connection indicator. I've tried everything suggested and nothing has significantly improved the situation. I got TWO WHOLE speed tests in this morning before it stopped working again. Ugh...back to the Apple store i go. iPhone 5 = EPIC FAIL.

Oct 19, 2012 10:56 AM in response to tobifsby sdreesen,is it possible this wifi issue only happens on certain wifi networks? I had this problem, took back to future shop and he could connect, i brought back home reset everything and then i could connect...but only for 2 days, it dropped again today, cant even get the wifi. I went back to the future shop and we connected right away...back at home i have nothing. But i have nothing only with my iphone 5, i'm good with my ipads and iphone 4 running the OS6 as well. I am thinking this is related to compatibility with wifi. My wifi is Lynks..about 1 year old.
Comments? anyone experience something similar?

Oct 19, 2012 11:25 AM in response to sdreesenby CRZ24,If your router is running WPA2, it's hard to connect or stay connected. Poor speeds.
If it's running WEP, easier to connect with less drops. Way better speed.
If router is OPEN (no security) will connect, with no drops and max speed.
The apple store use a OPEN network, and I'm guessing future shop does as well, or running WEP if you had to enter a security passphrase.

Oct 19, 2012 12:02 PM in response to filmstarrby BatteryDrainer,I had a similar experience with apple care and am scheduled to replace mine. Before I do, I was wondering, Is your replacement any better?
