Q: iPhone 5 wifi issues

My iPhone 5 connects to wifi networks and remembers them, but receives absolutely zero data through the network. LTE and 3G no problem... Off to the repair shop (after 3 hours of ownership...) or any ideas??

I had the same problem. I contacted Apple and gave them the logs generated by my router. The tech support guy told me to take the router out of bridge mode. I did, and have been able to connect ever since. It's a temporary workaround until Apple fixes the problem.

Wow, calm down. This is an inconvenience and annoying, but not a scam. Save some of that energy. You next problem is right around the corner.

I don't mind a workaround, unless it is a hardware problem. Did he know if its a hardware issue?

It appears to be a software issue.

It appears so! I was able to solve my wi-fi issues with a single system restore! Now, my iPhone 5 (Apple manufactured wireless ship) works as it should be... It's been 3 days... LTE activated and all.

Agree, it must be a S/W issue. Tried all tricks and nothing worked.

Went to the Genius Bar, Apple store Chadstone (Melbourne AUS) today and they have exchanged my iphone for a new one. Came home, set it up, same issue - lost wi-fi connection and not remembering it. Searched the web again and found a solution for this issue. You have to set up you wi-fi network manually. Go into other, enter name, under security chose WPA and enter password. It works for my phone. It recognizes and remembers your set up wi-fi network once and hopefully forever!!!

Time for Apple to issue a S/W fix!!!

I can actually said 'It appears to be an hardware issue", my first iPhone 5 worked perfectly over wifi and bluetooth. Pay attention, bluetooth too NOW is glitchy and bad quality in my car. Same software revision on both phones. In my case I can't think on a iOS release problem. Anycase, UPS picked up the phone this morning. I'll see if with my 3rd device I'll be more lucky...

OK, i got the new phone this weekend from apple. For the first 2 days the phone was good and i had no problems with wifi, however this morning it can't find the wifi. I give up.

I alwys put a proctective screen on my gear, so this has cost be about $50...gas to store, back and forth (who knows how many times) $40...Frustration and the time i have spent on this problem = defintely not worth spending the $500 for the upgrade iphone. I had the button issue on my iphone 4 and had to live with that for 2 years...I am officially jumping ship as far a phones are concerned. Thae fact that apple does not even officially mention this issue, really burns me. Goodbye Apple Iphone...I will now return and test the Samsung waters.

    Good luck everyone!

Yup same here, first 2 days were fine then a problem. My wife's has been 100% no matter what my router settings are/were to try and fix mine. I have considered restoring my config to hers and hers to mine and going that way for a few days and seeing if the problem follows, which would to me make it almost a 100% lock for being software as hers has never had the slightest inkling of a problem.

Goodbye SDREENSEN....and see you soon..... you and many others will be back.

There is definitely quite a few issues going on with the iPhone 5.  I will say, that even though I have been frustrated with iPhone 5 reference connecting to WPA2/AES I will say that I could not have asked for better customer service from Apple Employees.

So I'll give an update on my new iPhone 5 (3rd replacement).

So I contacted Apple Store by phone and spoke with an Inventory Specialist who happened to answer the phone. I advised him that I had 3 different iPhone 5s and all have experienced issues. The first 2 were really bad for some reason reference reception.  The 3rd one was still having issues. So I advised the rep that I was exhausted of making trips to the store and getting replacements and that my 30days was up. I advised him I was wanting to return my iPhone 5 and that I would take a brand new one out of the box.  He advised me that he would email the managers at the store and would have a brand new iPhone 5 on hold for me.

Due to work schedule, I went 2 days later and arrived at 815 am on Saturday. There was a lot going on.... They had been using a small temporary store and had been remodeling the actual store for over a month.  When I got there I noticed the NEW store was active with security personnel and Apple employees. So as soon as I walked up I was greeted and I asked if the New store was opening and I was told at 10am. I was then asked if I could be assisted with anything while I waited for the store to open. I advised him who I was and that I was wishing to meet with the store manager if it was possible. The store manager happened to be a few feet away and heard me mention it and walked over. There was quite a bit of Chaos going on with everyone trying to make last minute adjustments to the store before opening.

Manager asked me how he could help me. I advised him who I was and he immediately stated... Yes I got an email that you would be coming. I will get you a rep right now and hope to get this resolved for you.  Not only did I have one Genius Bar rep, but 2 of them and they also brought out a technician from the back of the store to speak with me personally about all the problems I had.

He advised me that the problems I experienced should be resolved with an IOS 6 update. I was then advised that I was welcome to return my iPhone 5 and exchange it for a brand new one in its original box as the one I received on release day.  They also assured me that if I experienced any problems with this one, I was welcome to bring it back and keep trying if that is what I wanted to do.  I advised them if I still had the same or similar problems, I would probably just wait until the IOS 6 update was released and see if that resolved the problems. I was also assured that if the IOS 6 update did not solve my problems and it was found to be a hardware issue that I could bring the phone back and they would replace it with no fees being that it would be considered an Apple problem or hardware defect if that turns out to be the case.

As for my new iPhone 5 that I got..... I have not had any problems connecting to WPA2 secured networks though I am experiencing slow downloads at times just like my iPad 3 has after I updated to IOS 6.  I'm satisfied with my new iPhone . I have not had enough time to test other secured networks other than my home.

In closing...... I will say.... I was treated fantastic and appreciated as a customer. I CAN'T to this day compare any other company to Apple on customer service. They have not given me any issues when returning my iPhone and not only that, but I was told that I was welcome to keep trying in replacing the phones if I wished based on commenting about this thread where some have been successful in getting a phone to work on WPA2 without issues. The technician stated that he strongly believes that it is a problem that will be resolved with an IOS 6 update. They apologized for my bad experience with my iPhone 5 and wanted to make sure my satisfaction with their product was met. The Technician also stated that the engineers have accumulated numerous iPhone 5's and are working to resolve this issue.

I'm not sure that other companies would have went this far on replacements or taking the time to take care of me when they were still needing to get a few more things finished before the store opened. They took care of me 1.5 hrs prior to store opening. There was no signs of trying to rush me and send me on my way, but rather they wanted to make sure I left satisfied and happy with their product.

    Thank you Apple.

I forgot to say one more thing......

Though I'm very appreciative of how Apple Employees have been with me, I failed to mention that the Apple Community (the users) here have also put so much time and effort in attempting to find a fix and have taken the time to respond to each other hoping for a fix. Some have been able to resolve their issues and others are still frustrated about it with no solution.

I just wanted to thank you guys also... this Apple community has been an awesome experience itself and I appreciate all your help.

SHADDOW.... That would be very intersting.  Being that we have all tried just about everything.  You have the advantage of having an iphone 5 that works and one that does not.  I would like to see if you backed up your wife's iphone 5 and then restored your iphone 5 with her backup to see if that would make things work any different for your phone that is having issues.

I don't recall reading about anyone trying this yet. Let us know if you decide to try it and how it turns out.

Yes, I am very temped to do this. In my thinking, the only outcome that shows us anything that we do not know is one where everything remains exactly the same (me with the same problems I have always had through 2 phones, and her remaining trouble free) that would tell me it is almost certainly a software problem.

guys... i'm on my 4th iphone 5, 3rd replacement; first had spotty wifi, second/third both had BIG light leaks under the power button with BIG dust particles trapped under the camera lenses, but the fourth has much improved wifi but some slight light leakage that I can deal with.

Bottom line... if its merely a wifi issue... i advise for the update bc with Apple's current quality control you'll be lucky not to face any other issues in an replacement. I know it *****... but stay patient.

    Good Luck!
