Nov 1, 2012 1:17 PM in response to roelandvdhby CRZ24,I have 2 iPhone 5 since release date with poor wifi. I was waiting for an update to correct the problem instead of doing multiple returns like some have with no luck. Anyway 6.0.1 seams to have fixed my wifi issue. I now have switched back to WPA2 AES 802.11 N with no issues yet. I'm getting good constant download speeds with no drops yet. I'll continue to monitor it for a few more days to make sure it's fixed. After the update I did (forget my network) on the iPhone and rejoined it.

Nov 1, 2012 1:29 PM in response to tobifsby GhostRyder550,I noticed that my iPhone 4s sees the iOS 6.0.1 update; however, when I go to the software updater on my iPhone 5, it only shows an update that fixes a bug preventing iPhone 5 from installing software updates wirelessly over the air. What about the rest of the $#!T (stuff) that needs to be fixed? If the update just came out, I know my phone doesn't have all of the other updates when I received it 3 weeks ago. I wonder if there is something wrong with the updater as to why people are still not having success with their wifi connections.

Nov 1, 2012 1:38 PM in response to tobifsby Soak_g,I think there are 2 issues here:
1. Low wifi reception, you have to be very close to the router to connect. Some of the networks are unvisible because of that.
2. While connected to wifi, slow data and download speed.
I had both problems and the 6.0.1 update fixed problem no. 2. I now have good download speed while connected to wifi, so this was probably a software issue.
However, I still have problem no. 1... I don't get any wifi networks while I'm in my living room, while my iPhone 4 gets 3 networks including my home network. when I go to the room where the router is, I finally see my home network (and only that), but with 2 and sometimes 1 bar of reception (my iPhone 4 gets 3 bars). This is probably a hardware issue. For me, this was the main issue, and it really stinks.

Nov 1, 2012 1:51 PM in response to Soak_gby dherback,Soak, I think you've got it right. I don't have issue 2, just issue 1. So sad if I have to return my phone but I heard 6.1 update might be out in a week or two so I might just wait on that one.

Nov 1, 2012 2:08 PM in response to dherbackby Eric-in-NewYork,I have been suffering from the same issue (i.e. terrible WiFi range).
I was hopeful 6.0.1 would solve the problem, but it didn't. I'm now nervous it's a hardware issue. I wish Apple would publicly acknowledge this situation and advise if it "is" a software issue that they're working on a fix for - or if they have no idea - and we should consider returning and waiting for a future model.
It's awful that I can't use my iPhone when I'm more than 20 feet from the WiFi router. I never had a problem with my iPhone 4, or my wife's iPhone 4S (or other devices/laptops/etc.).
And just in case an Apple employee is reading this, I've tried everything to solve this problem:
- Reset phone
- Reset network settings
- Wiped phone and "started as new device"
- Changed security settings
- Configuring to 5ghz only (on Airport Extreme)
Nothing helps.
This video shows the issue perfectly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soWQ30Z5ZfA
Please Apple - let us know you're working on this problem.

Nov 1, 2012 2:21 PM in response to GhostRyder550by JT122333,That's the 6.0.1 update. It would need to fix OTA updating before it could do an OTA update. Apple applies this fix to everyone.

Nov 1, 2012 2:31 PM in response to tobifsby Shaddow,So far so good for me on 6.0.1 but I won't know for sure until I leave and come back to the house over the next couple of days. Some days I would come home and it was fine, but most days weren't (maybe once a week or so didn't have a problem).

Nov 1, 2012 2:36 PM in response to Shaddowby dherback,Shaddow, same for me that it's intermittant. I was in my bedroom on Netflix for a good 30 min last night with no issue then the wifi just died and wouldn't come back. It hasn't been any good since then. This is why I'm hopeful it's a software issue, since it CAN work decently sometimes.

Nov 1, 2012 2:46 PM in response to dherbackby Shaddow,Well mine is intermittant in that if I am good on the network, I will always be good on the network until I leave it from some period of time. I've never had it go bad without leaving the house for multiple hours. It's just that when coming back it either works or doesn't. When it doesnt I reboot and all is well. Rinse and repeat..

Nov 1, 2012 3:34 PM in response to StephPDXby Shanon.Roberts,Hi.. get in touch with Netgear about your device.
Im downloading IOS6.0.1 as im desperate due to my WiFi dramas since IOS 6.0
Netgear are aware of various WiFi devices with connectivity issues.
Check to see if there are any NEW firmware versions for you device and upgrade.
I initially downgraded firmware for my netgear device as a work around, but its not recommended to do so.
