    For the speed tests, I'm using's iOS app, but the slow down is obvious even outside of the app. Videos start to load really slowly and some web pages load with hiccups.


    Also just sent an email to Tim Cook. We'll see how this goes. I usually got good responses from Steve Jobs.

    I know what you mean about things being slow outside of any speed test period. Apps download slow. Music downloads slow.


    For me, the odd thing at home using's iOS I get way over-inflated results. I know the most I'm capable of getting with my Charter cable is between 15Mbps-20Mbps and I'm happy with that. Ever since I put in the AirPort Extreme - at home the iOS app shows ridiculous download speed of 50-70Mbps. I wish!


    In tinkering around some more, I decided to have my router statically assign an IP address to my phone rather than it just be part of the "lottery" and it seemed to marginally improve. But, as with many of the other "fixes" which turn out to be temporary, I'm not holding my breath.


    UPDATE: (5 min later) as I suspected, it doesn't hold.


    Also of interesting note - this has not affected my upload speed. My upload rate on any machine/device using any app, website - has consistently been what it should be for my service - between 1-3Mbps. So basically now my upload rate is faster than my download rate.

    I can't believe I've been reading posts about this issue since September 21 and it still hasn't been fixed. Just received my iPhone 5 last Friday and haven't been able to use Wi-Fi from home with NetGear WGT624 v3. Everything else seems to be working (iPad, BB Playbook, 2 iPod touch, iPhone 4S) I might just go back to my old iPhone 3GS. Tried to reset network connections, did a hard reboot, pretty much everything that's been posted here and still no results. It picks up Wi-Fi at work but it's not the right time to be using my phone. Hard to tell what the problem really is.

    I agree.  Let's cut to the chase.  Take this issue to the next level, your local and or national media.  They are always looking for consumer stories like this.   It is obvious that these post will not get any respect from Apple.

    Hi guys, i been reading this post since day 1. My ip5 is gsm lte version and from hk carrier. I don't have serious connection problem but my ip5 will stop downloading when downloading large file such as youtube HD. I have tried lots of thing from this posts but no change at all. Finally, i got a breakthrough when i test it on 5GHz wi-fi. Comparing to 2.4G, my ip5 is very smooth on 5G network(can see the different when downloading youtube HD movie). My IP5 can't connect to pure 802.11n 2.4G network too which no problem at pure 802.11n 5G.


    Of course this is a temporary solution and sit tide for coming update. I dont' like google phone at all, bad design.

    I don't know what happened to my phone or router, the wifi just works after few days getting my 3rd replacement and now it hasn't failed on me once...

    I got my iphone 5 just a few days ago. I had the same problem likes many of you have. I thought it was a software issue.  I exchanged my phone today and everything works perfect now at my home wifi.  I will test it out at my work wifi tomorrow and will keep you guys posted with the result.  I think it is a hardware issue. I would suggest many of you to go ahead and exchange a new one.  For those need a long drive, please check at the location to make sure they will have the phone avaliable as I was very lucky that Best Buy has the last one at the store.  My other friend also has iPhone 5 with IOS 6.0.1 and he has no wifi issue. I figured it is more of a hardware issue than a software issue. I bet there are many defective products out that needs replacement and apple does not want to make it public.


    One last comment, I did not connect to iTunes through my computer as I am not sure if it will cause problem. I just used iCloud to backup everything. I am just so happy right now that I got my replacement and I feel that the computer speed is so much faster than my iPhone 4.  I was so frustrated in the past few days and wanted to give up apple, but now I am all happy.  I hope all of you not to wait and go get a replacement with apple, best buy or the phone service provider within the exchange/warranty period.  Good luck to all.

    I had the same problem described in most of the other messages:

    From home my wifi was really slow. I restored my new iPhone 5 from an itunes backup.



    Reset Network Settings:

    General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings

    The phone will restart. After the restart switch off the wifi from 10-15 seconds, then activate it again and connect to your network.


    It worked for me and I hope will help someone else.

    From what I've been reading some people have been saying it is either hardware, software issue or a network issue.


    At first I was thinking it was a network issue because I happened to have changed my wireless modem roughly the same time iOS 6.0 was released so I was first aiming at my new modem to be defective but then I saw other Apple users were experiencing the same problem. Then I was hoping the 6.0.1 would have fixed the problem which supposedly was addressed as mentioned in the 6.0.1 update notes.


    However, my iPhone 5 and iPad 3 are seeing this problem while running iOS 6.0 and 6.0.1. WiFi will cut out temporarily if connected too long to my home network. Reconnecting seems to fix it but for only minutes. my iPhone 5 is able to stay connected a lot better compared to my iPad 3. I would also like to point out that my iPad never had this problem before this iOS 6.0 was released, so I am definately pointing my finger in the direction of a software issue.


    The problem did seem to have gone away for maybe a few weeks but it has started again and it is very frustrating when using WiFi at home.


    I think I speak for everybody saying this but... PLEASE FIX, at least acknowledge the problem too.

    I have been following this thread for a long time since I got my iphone5 on the first day.

    I am on my third phone and this one is somewhat better. I do need to be close to my router at home

    I'm currently in Europe and I constantly have to sign in to wifi in hotel.

    I also read some comments about my current hotel in Germany and one guest remarked that her husband's pc worked fine on wifi but she had problems with her apple product. "Seems to be an apple problem".

    I hope that Apple eventually owns this problem and makes it right.

    My husband's android is looking better and better.

    Can't we sue apple for ignoring and not acknowledging and not testing the devices before they sell them?

    this is ridiculous. i bough mine whil i was travelling in the UK. what options do i have? the phone haven't arrived in my home country yet.

    It only connects to unsecured and WEP networks but with no data transfer. *** ***.


    I did  a hard restart and an itunes restore but nothing helped.''Unable to connect to network''

    I support suing Apple, going to the local media and bringing awareness of this HUGE issue. I am beyond furious. I am in South East Asia. There is no Apple store in Thailand. I am stuck with this dead weight (iphone 5), can't upload my pictures. I don't get  home to San Diego for four more months. As soon as i get home, I will be creating a big fuss at the local Apple store. Hopefully, the issue is resolved by then.

    She claimed that she's never heard of anyone having the same problem with the new iphone 5. and that i'll have to send it back for servicing under the hardware warranty

    Shame on Apple to show such ignorance over the issue. I understand their arrogance based on their success but such ignorance is not warranted from a most valuable Company in the world.
