When I go to work tomorrow where I having all my problem I will  turn date off and see if I can surf the web with no IP address. I have never turn off date... It always show me wifi bars., and wifi say (Kessler) I then move on to next page where it says choose a network.... (Kessler) is checked then move on to next page but will not show IP address. Page is blank. I just want to know if this is happening to anyone else.

Sam: You're in the same boat as must of us, since you have an Apple WiFi device, it makes it harder to justify why the WiFi isnt working and buy something else .

you'd think if you have iphnoe 5 and Apple WiFi device "they" should be able to get it working if you rang them for support , seems like most of the time they dont have a clue.

Long story short, IOS6 and their updates along with it are "train wrecks" and we're all suffering to hope a 6.2 release will fix it as opposed to minor patch releases, otherwise the only other option is to TOSS in your WiFi Device and buy something else on the provision you've tried everything possible with configuration of it OR repair/replace iphone 5 if you can.

Next Option is to TOSS them both out and change phone products altogether which some of us are thinking that way.

These Apple Developers should apply a common principle when updating/upgrading and that is

"If its NOT broken then DONT fix it" , just add to what already works

    Just upgraded to 6.0.2 OTA.

I originally experienced the wifi connection issues many have reported on, but these seemed to resolve after a few days.  But still issues with a weak signal, particularly away from my router.  Have been regularly testing speed etc due to frequent wifi signal issues so I have comparative data.

After the upgrade, initially, everything still the same on home router.  Good signal near the router, but inconsistent speed.  But after restart of the iP5 the issues near the router seemed to disappear.

Move away and I lose significant signal strength, even reverting to 3G within the house.   Rerun test next to router 0.31 Mbps down and 0,27 Mbps up!!

Rebooted iP5 and reran test with phone in exact same position 14.32/.80, which is pretty typical of good result in Adelaide, Australia.  Able to repeat this a minute later.

Went to another part of house - about 15m from router - 0.22Mbps down and 0.00 up!

Returned to position next to router - 14.57/0.82 - twice.

So far, tests, after rebooting phone, and near the router show good connection speeds - an improvement.

But once I move away from the router the speed issues remain.

Will be going out shortly and will check in local cafes etc.

Back now.  Connection to "public" wifi was slower than at home but better than before.

At home speed and connection near router good.  BUT once I move away from the router the loss of signal is significant, to the point where I couldn't run the Speedtest.

Now retesting near threouter and speeds way down again - 0.45/0.31

    Rebooted iP5 and retested -

Initially, I was going to say it seems like an antena issue which a software upgrade won't fix.  But now that speeds near the router have dropped off I can't help but think that it's something more significant??

I'm afraid I fall into the group of users not helped by 6.0.2 My speeds are still in the Kbps range when my other Apple devices are in the Mbps range on wifi. I'll try upgrading my wife's phone tomorrow, maybe she'll be lucky.

I had hoped 6.2 would fix this problem but I suspect 6.0.2 is an early release of 6.2wifi changes in an attempt by Apple to respond to the 1000s of complaints here and the countless phones returned. I guess we are stuck with broken phones until we can qualify for carrier upgrades or someone takes a class action suit and forces Apple to do a recall on what looks to be bad hardware.

My home wifi network doesnt have security on it and I still have connection issues. No security is not a solution

  • Shanon.Roberts Level 1 Level 1

To MrGuiness : If you fall in to the category where ALL was fine on IO5 then went pear shaped after IOS6 and you're saying you have "0" wifi security at your house ? ; I hope you realise anyone that walks past your premise if you're in a residential area that someone could pickup yuor SSID and connect if you havent atleast hidden it ?

If i was you, i'd bite the bullet and go and buy yourself an alternative WiFi device and get some security back on.

If note and word gets around you having "no" security and open network, people would love to roam around your place for free WiFi and consume your DATA, not a good thing.

I went to AT&T store today and it was no luck they act as if they didn't have a clue what they were doing or are aware of the issue. The AT&T guy asked if I tried restarting the ip5. Really bro? Now I am stuck to drive an hour and a half to the Apple store to return the ip5 that I just bought 15 days ago and hopefully exchange for a replacement. Anybody else have any ideas?

Everything was fine on iOS 5 w/ my iphone 4. Upgraded to iOS 6 and wifi started getting spotty reception. Upgraded to iPhone 5 & it got slightly worse.

And there's no security on my hoe wifi because its not my house (im staying w/ my parents for a month or 2) and they dont understand the concept, despite my explaining it several thousand times.

I have a Netgear N600 dual band router (2.4GHz & 5GHz) and my iPhone can only connect to the 5GHz and even then its either very spotty or non-existent. Routers all up to date & everyone else can connect just fine (2 more iPhone 5s, an iPhone 4s, my MacBook Pro, an iMac, another Macbook & a PC all via wifi).

Again I'm well aware of that fact but my parents are very naive about putting a password on the wifi, despite all my warnings & common knowledge so I just gave up trying to change them. And they won't let me go near the wifi settings otherwise I would have done it myself already.

My phone is working better after I stood six inches from the router and installed 6.0.2. At first it did nothing but is now better. I am once again seeing lots of wifi connections pop up on my phone. I have not seen any available wifi connections since I got my first iphone5. This is my third phone.

I went to Apple store today to talk to rep and tell him that phone seemed to be working better.

He told me that the "geniuses" has been told not to acknowledge any wifi issues since there was never a problem in the stores. When someone came in with wifi complaint hey were supposed to do restores on phone because " after 3 restores the phone sometimes started working". I told him to pass he woes along that I did not appreciate the way that Apple was handling this. I also told him that I had been looking at Apple computers but after this experience I would not be buying another Apple product for a while.

I am very disappointed and angry over the way that this wifi issue has been handled.

Even if its family, the more reason to take it upon yourself to look after your family ?. My father wouldnt have a clue about computer things, i get phones through my work day of him asking me things, apply the security yourself if you know how to ?, otherwise their Internet Provider or whoever installed the device should help over the phone or an onsite techo could.

Now with that out of that way...

As for Netgear Products, having the LATEST firmware meaning "nothing", if you've been reading my posts and others, Netgear "are" well aware of the communication problems with IOS 6 situations such as with Iphone 4S, Iphone 5 just to name a few.

DOWNGRADING firmware on some Netgear Products have prooved to be a "workaround". if you cant perform this on your families WiFi device, then ring netgear on their behalf and they will guide you over the phone.

In addition, As for Netgear Products, i have a product of theirs and the LATEST firmware is no good, i had to "DOWNGRADE" the firmware to get it working.

Just to top it off without being too blunt here, but you're lucky this is in your household, spare a thought for companies, businesses like myself who are stuck in limbo with atleast Netgear was kind enough to point out a workaround; A better response than what ive got with Apple !.

My solution is wait for IOS 6.2 in hope... OR i leave my old firmware on my WiFi devices at my various companies buildings OR i buy NEW WiFi Products.

To MGD13: Those Apple Genious staff, some of them need a slap around the head for making such comments. I kinda got the same response since day one. I posted a comment to say i wouldnt employ IT staff for my company saying things like that.

    I have updated to 6.0.2

Worked very well for an hour, speeds back to what I expect and connectivity not an issue.

Went upstairs and it was a different phone, it reads my wifi signal, but clearly not using it. I go into settings and manually select it, sometimes it works, mainly it is useless. Unable to join network seems to be the most common message, when you use the blue arrow against your network it has no numbers at all. Having problems with 3G cellular now. My old 3GS works fine throughout the house. There is definitely a range issue, together with connectivity and dropping out issues.

Reading through this thread there seems little point in getting a different iPhone 5, mostly the problems remain.

Upgrading to 6.0.2 fixed the upload hang when running speedtest. I ditched my Apple Extreme access point and installed a Ruckus access point. That made a HUGE difference in signal strength in my home eliminating the weak signal and dead spots. The Ruckus AP is designed by really good radio engineers and works.

I also tried and ditched an HPMSM422 access point due to poor WiFi signal coverage.

After a couple of days with 6.02.........

I have twice had problems with my wifi connection in the office.   Rebooting the phone solved it both times.

Otherwise, wifi speeds have been amazingly improved.   Everything just flies and data speeds are better than LTE, which is also strong here near my office.

Seems that APPLE is 90% there on this issue, from my experience.
