Is the Apple Store acknowledging the wifi issues and willing to replace my ip5 or am I going to have to convince them today during my appointment?

If you are on 6.02 and can demostrate to the Genius that your phone will not connect to wifi, I expect there will be no problems getting a new one from them

If you read all the posts on here it appears that you can have your phone replaced, only after they totally wipe the phone and see if that fixes that problem. Many people experiencing the wifi WPA2 problem are having the phones replaced after they go through an extended Genius appointment. Make sure you backup your phone, and songs/movies/other media (pictures) that may not automatically back-up. The reason I am not attempting that yet is because many people are on their 2nd or 3rd phone and STILL have the same problem. If 6.0.2 update does not work for me though, I must assume it IS a hardware issue and will be returning my phone pronto.

Connecting to WIFI at the Apple store is not indicative of anything, since their WIFI network is not secure (unless you are having a problem connecting to McDonalds/Stabucks and not at home/work (most likely a WPA2 WIFI network)).

Some on this board have also had luck with calling Apple support and having a new phone mailed to them, however most reports indicate this process may be more difficult (report indicate they most often do not even acknowledge that there is a WIFI problem) than actually physically going to an Apple store (try and avoid going to your provider's store (AT&T/Verizon).

My wifi issues started after the 6.0.2 update.  I will wait for 6.0.3 before I go to the store.

I highly suggest to ANYONE who has issues and are trying to decide what to do .... TAKE DETAILED NOTES!!! I had gone through 2 useless reps who claimed to have escalated my case to the engineers and never did. They never documented my calls for help and I had to start over 3 different times. Once I finally got a rep with a brain, along with a senior advisor (and went through 4 replacement phones) did they finally resolve my issues 98%. That 2% is my dissatisfaction at losing wifi at the back of my house. But considering I couldn't walk 3 feet from my router without dropping wifi, I accepted it in the hopes that a future update would resolve that for me. So far it hasn't. But I am holding onto my 5th replacement phone and dogging these forums daily looking for suggestions that might fix that 2% for me.

So please ... take notes, take names, note the dates and times you call and how long it took for them to help you. It came in handy for me later when the Apple Genius didn't think I really had a wi-fi issue because it "worked just fine" at the Apple store. ALL of my iPhone 5's worked at the Apple store, but none of them worked after I left and I had notes to prove it.

Oh and, don't be surprised if the Genius reps claim they have "never heard of a wi-fi issue" because they have. They ALL have, and the last update released SOLELY for wi-fi proves it.

I have an Apple service person contacting me regularly to see if the problem has been fixed.  Previous 'help' also included promises to turn the matter over to an engineer. It never happened.  The most recent senior tech person was very surprised by the slow wifi issue.  He said there is no reference to anyone else having that problem in the files!!!!!  You've got to be kidding!!!! I said there were thousands that were complaining on the discussion group. He said they weren't authorized to follow that information.

With that in mind I think we need to tell the Apple reps we talk to that we want to see evidence that the slow wifi download issue is being forwarded to the Apple data base.  It's fairly evident that we are being lied to. I've had 3 previous iPhone 5's with that same problem so the data base should at least have those reports.

Yes, we are most definitely being lied to by some of these reps who either don't want to deal with an issue that can't be fixed, or just want to push us away until we give up.  But I wouldn't, and I called every day.  And I was told by the person who finally fixed my issue that wi-fi IS a huge issue and he doesn't understand how anybody at Apple could dare say it wasn't.

These discussion forums are for customers to help one another.  Apple pays little, if any,  attention to postings in these forums.

If you want to provide feedback to Apple about problems with the iPhone I suggest you go to this web site:

and voice your problems there.  That's the place for customers to contact Apple and provide feedback.

If you have access to someone with a developer account, then use this web site to officially report bugs to Apple:

If you want to do a press crusade, send your experiences to reporters that cover Apple in the press.  They are easy to find using Google.

Apple probably doesn't read post at the feed back site you mention.  Bottom this has gone way to long.  Just look at the wording with the lastest rev., "which May be related to wifi issues."

Just got a new iPhone 5 for my wife today and updated to iOS 6.0.2, big mistake!  It can't stay connect to my home wifi.  I don't think that iOS 6.0.2 fixes anything if there is any.  My other iOS devices iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad running iOS 6.0.1 works just fine.  This is definitely iPhone 5 problem.  Granted, when it connects, it doesn't run as fast as my iPhone 4!  However, when it reloads the same page or when you touch the back button in Safari, it reloads faster.

But at this point, I am taking the iPhone 5 to get my refund and switch back to a iPhone 4S.  iPhone 5 is terrible at this point.  I am holding on to my iPhone 4 until perhaps iPhone 6 before I consider an upgrade at this point even though my phone is eligible for an upgrade.  This is very disappointing.

Tried everything on this forum with my brand new iphone 5 but nothing worked.  6 Apple devices (Iphone 4 and 4S) in the house and they all connect without a glitch on our Apple Airport (2 years old, latest firmware).  The iphone will not connect.  It can see the network but just spins after you enter the password.  it knows when you enter the wrong password but will not connect.  Downloaded the Airport utility for the iphone and installed it.  It can read and interact with the airport.  I can even change settings but it will not connect under Wireless. Returned phone and got new one.  Oh, I have also updated both to 6.02 with no improvement.  Changed every setting imaginable on both phone and airport-nothing.  Finally read that one guy got it to work by buying a Netgear router.  It's my mom's phone so I had to get this thing to work before i leave.  Bought the Netgear N900 and hooked it up in ten minutes.  Everything connects perfectly.  So, Apple's own Airport won't work but Netgear's does.    Crazy.  For now I'm out some money on the router but it all works.

I have no issue WIFI at office which is using Huawei router but at home's D-link router has problem.

After updated to 6.0.2 every time when back to home from office i need to reboot my phone else i unable to connect the WIFI. Before updating 6.0.2 i totally unable to connect the home's wifi!

what is wrong with apple? Wifi so difficult to fix? 2 updates still unable to solve?

  • morbeck Level 1 (0 points)

The same with my iPhone 5 with 32GB. It was working OK before with 6.0.1, no Wifi issues, but bad mobile network quality with noise and cut-offs at places where iPhone 4 was perfectly working. But with 6.0.2 it is getting nearly no connection to any Wifi network anymore. Other iPhones (3 and4) connect w/o. any problems, also other Wifi clients connect. Sometimes even my iPhone 5 connects suddenly but then there nearly is no data transfer or very limited speed only. This is absoluteley the worst quality I have seen in an iPhone and Apple product yet.
