Jan 4, 2013 5:39 PM in response to mikeua69by Sk8Dreams,I haven't looked into downgrading the firmware yet, and it's just as well. Alas, it doesn't seem to be a router problem for me. I had exactly the same problem with the EnGenius router. Farther than about 10 feet, and nothing goes either direction, though the phone still thinks it's connected. Guess I'm not running out and buying a new router. What really bums me out is that I think I"m going to have to take this to an Apple store, or worse yet, send it back to AT&T. Anyone know if the Apple store will exchange it when I bought it via AT&T?

Jan 4, 2013 6:12 PM in response to Sk8Dreamsby John Capra,For what it's worth, I set up a new "nest" thermostat over the weekend and was having issues accessing it over the internet so went on their support site to look up wifi issues (turns out it was a server issue on their side). When i got the part about 'unsupported routers' there was a whole list of Netgear models that were on the list.
I'm using a time capsule with my iphone 5 and have issues but do now believe that there is something non-standard with the way netgears communicate over wifi. This may be in addition to the iphone issues, or a completely seperate issue that is making the overall wifi problem appear larger but thought this was interesting. I'd be interested to know what these all have in comomon.
Heres's the link at nest.com:

Jan 4, 2013 6:18 PM in response to mikeua69by Sk8Dreams,mike - you're saying I have to go through AT&T? A nightmare. I may just give the phone back to them and stick with my 4, which I really love.

Jan 5, 2013 4:31 AM in response to John Capraby Glenn_Ha,I see people are emphasising Netgear routers as a source for problems. But even thoug it might be the case I experience the same problem with Cisco Linksys routers, older Linksys (before Cisco bought them), Thomson, Dlink and others.
The other thing mentioned is channelwidth and channel choices. This has always been a issue with all wireless networks but what differs here is that iPhone 4+4S works without problems where iPhone 5 dont. And you cant ask every airport, hotel and company to upgrade theire routers because of iP5/iOS6 (if that would solve something).
I myeself have experienced the problem more often when BT is used aswell and the antenna design and support for comunication technologies in the device is more complex than ever.

Day two with my replacement phone and I am still having issues with home wifi. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes not at all or really slow. At least this phone will work on my work wifi. There are obviously still issues with the iPhone 5 and wifi.
It works with your work WiFi but not at home and you think your iPhone has a problem??
Check for an update to the firmware in your WiFi router on the manufacturer's support Web page. If your router is no longer supported get a new router.

Jan 5, 2013 5:21 AM in response to JimHdkby mikeua69,I already have checked my router. Considering that my other five devices work perfectly fine, it's not a router issue.

Jan 5, 2013 5:44 AM in response to tobifsby German Wiernik1,I have the same problem as most of you, when the WiFi signal down a line, the wifi connection is lost despite stating that there is a connection, it happens to me in my house, in my office and in the areas they have free WIFI signal. Presumably a smarthphone gives you the freedom of movement so I don't see why is necessary to change the parameters of the routers. The iphone 4 for my wife works correctly in all the areas of my home and the iphone 5 (6.0.2) los the signal at two meters from the router, Apple has to admit that there is a fault in the antenna , today I will go to the store for a replacement.

How do you tell the companies, shops, airport, hotel, train, trainstations, bus etc. to do this?
