Q: iPhone 5 wifi issues

My iPhone 5 connects to wifi networks and remembers them, but receives absolutely zero data through the network. LTE and 3G no problem... Off to the repair shop (after 3 hours of ownership...) or any ideas??

The bottom of every email notification has a link that says "Apple Support Communities Profile".  Click that and you can change your email preferences.

Replacement phone, given by Apple store without question solved whole problem for me.  Had it 3 weeks and all is well.  Genius there said it was a 'wifi card fault'.

I have an iPhone 4s as does my son. I have had intermittent wifi problems with my home router for at least a year. When I am having problems downloading emails, my son isn't having any. Then, all on its own, it clears up and I won't have any problems for awhile. Then it will start again. I use to restore my phone, etc. Now I don't do anything but wait. I will turn wifi off and use 3G. Nothing ever changes in my home wifi, which is NetGear. Absolutely no reason for the issues except that maybe the planets aren't aligned correctly with my phone!

There my be plenty of reasons, just not so easily noticeable ones. A common problem with routers is channel interference. Its not something you can see, but does affect devices differently.

He is replying to the off-topic post about email notifications sent out when this thread is updated. Let's all stick to the topic here of Wifi Issues on the iPhone 5 everyone, please.

Start a new thread for your forum notification issue if it continues.

Not sure exchanging the iPhone is the way to go because from reading all the posts that doesn't seem to help.

It doesn't always help, but it often does.  My own WiFi issues were cured with a new phone, and others on here have had theirs fixed as well.  But others have changed phones and still had the problem.  So either it's a combination of problems (likely), or if it's a hardware issue, there's a possibility you may get the same problem on new hardware.

On the other hand, other than time and aggravation, there's not much to lose by exchanging the phone if the current one isn't working right.

I have this fear an exchange will give me sucky battery life. Mine's pretty good right now. Of course, it may be the only option. I'm definitely calling apple. Keeping open the Settings for WiFi and turning off and on, sometimes every few minutes is ridiculous.

I know that this issue seems more related to the 5 but my husbands 4S won't connect to WiFi to Sync at all. I know that issue is discussed on another thread, but I believe both issues are definitely connected.

Does anyone know how many different WiFi cards were used in the iPhone 5 and if there is a way to identify which iPhone 5 and WiFi card you have?

I think it's safe to say that there are at least two Broadcom WiFi cards being used in the iPhone 5. One works well and the other - not so much. It would be awesome if we could start to single out or narrow down which iPhone 5's specifically are affected by some type of unique identifier - lot number, manuf date, model number (doesn't seem to be helpful), or other...

My 4s is doing this as well...My son's 4 is working just fine.  No changes to router and all settings are correct.  It's puzzling to say the least...

oh so sorry to ruffle your feathers. Touchy are we?  I was making a joke not "making it out to be a design flaw".

Yes its a "perfect design"  Probably why it works so well.

Did you bother to read the post? Do you know about the plastic windows in the iphone 5 where the antenna are? the design is perfect, there's no interference.

my iphone 5 has had no problem with wifi, bluetooth or lte on any update. I am not saying others are not having problem, but its not a fundamental design flaw as you make it out to be.

Little off-topic here, but seirously how the **** do I unsubscribe from receiving email notifications everytime a new reply is posted on this thread? I have turned off all of the notifcations on my account preferences and I am constantly receiving updates.

Despite what Apple seems to think, I actually don't care about every single person who has the same problem as me. Perhaps Apple should be receiving these email notifications so that they can become more aware of the severity of the iPhone 5 WiFi issues.
