Q: iPhone 5 wifi issues

That's what I've been on about: if all your neighbors stuck to 1, 6, and 11 ONLY, half the problems on this thread would go away. As soon as someone is on a different channel that those three, and close to the one you're on (if you're on 6 and someone's on 7) forgetaboutit.

We are on a netgear router

I've got a Linksys EA4500 with seperate SSID's for the 2.4/5Ghz bands. The 5GHz band is for my MBPr and MBA laptops. The 2.4GHz is for guests, phones, and other devices. I may change this or get a refurbed Linksys E4200 device (can be had for as little as $50) to run a second 5GHz band. The 2.4GHz band in my neighborhood is heavily congested.

I wonder if something changed in recent versions of iOS. Can anyone confirm problems with thier iPhone 5 on iOS 6.0?

is your iPhone5 wifi internet speed fast with the Linksys EA4500 2.4 and 5Ghz bands , or is it slow as ****?

The first one I had was useless on Wifi. I got it replaced and so did my wife (different issue). So with our new iPhone 5's they seem decent. They're definitly not as good as the iPhone 4S's we had, and drop wifi here and there (which the 4S never did). If I step outside of my house, I get no WiFi, while the 4S would have a connection 8 houses down!

My internet is 25mbit down, 2.5mbit up, and with Speedtest, I get 9.66 / 2.36 when I'm at the far end of the house (about 40' away -- and it's on the 2.4GHz band). That's a pretty respectible result, but as I said, reception and reliability is more of an issue than peak throughput. I wish there was a cheap/free version of iPerf. I could do a proper network test with packet loss analysis.

On the 5GHz band, I get 22.57 / 2.42 and the transfer rate is much smoother and consistent (no jumps and dips).

I have been in contact with a rep from Tim Cook's office.  They themselves had me use iPhone Config Utility to send them log files from my iPhone to have them send to the engineering department.

I have also ordered the brand new AirPort Extreme 6th Gen with 802.11ac.  Maybe some other hardware inside has changed since the 5th Gen and might fix the problem.  If that is the case, I'll be so mad that they couldn't diagnose that.

Let us know what you find out. iPhone 5 just will not work. Maybe one day they will fixes it. 

lets hope that Apple resolves it the latest models of iphon5. Please do let me know as i have purchased 2 iph5 but both having weak wifi issue and my wife iph4S was catching signals from the same router and same settings where my 2 iph5 were not able to catch wifi signals. Actually I m sure this is hardware problem of wifi chip so Apple have rectified this problem in recent models of iph5, do let me know as I may take risk to buy 3rd iph5. ok see u

This is unbelievable and so surprising that our old iph4 and 4S are getting better wifi signals than iph5. lets hope that Apple resolves it the latest models of iphon5. After lot of discussion with friends and study, I came to know that this problem can only be resolves if Apple replaces wifi chip in iph5. If cant better iph5, then atleast replace with wifi chip of Iph4S.

I m using normal rubber case on iph5 , Same type is being used by my wifi on iph4S. But my wife iph4S is catching very strong wifi signals from much far away with same router and same settings on which my iph5 is not getting. So disappointing and frustrating

What happened to all the posts mentioning that the "up and coming" release of the software for your iPhones (coming this fall) seems to have fixed the problem?  I guess they were deleted by Apple.  I wonder why.

I can't find a fix to this problem at all! It's really frustrating renewing a contract with a phone that wont even work properly.. It's gonna be a tough 3 years! I hope they find a fix for the IPhone 5... I know the 5s is gonna come out, but it isnt very fair to us who bought the Iphone 5.

this is because these softwares have nothing to do with wifi problem. This wifi problem is purely a hardware problem...so tough luck
