Sep 26, 2012 10:00 PM in response to Amin7b5by Amin7b5,Just speculating, but since my iPad doesn't list a modem firmware I'm wondering if it isn't related to wifi but rather just the 3G/4G chip.

Sep 26, 2012 10:04 PM in response to Shanon.Robertsby matrixxzero,Shannon, that firmware is for the iPhone 4 and 4S. Mine is the same as yours and my iPhone 4 has NO ISSUES.
My iPhone 5 has issues and is a totally different model and firmware. I believe you are scaring a lot of iPhone5 users with this post. I just believe it belongs to iPhone 4 users only as iPhone 5 is a totally different firmware revision.
Thank you for the tip and bringing it to Apple. Hope they bring out a revision soon.

Sep 26, 2012 10:05 PM in response to ccpzcpby matrixxzero,I believe all iPhone 5 users will be 1.00.16 until Apple sends out a new update like IOS 6.1. That will also update the firmware.
That other posting is the current iPhone 4 firmware revision.

Just to update my issue / status.
I was able to collect my replacement black 64gb iphone 5 handset today and the wifi on the new model is working perfectly now.
Nice strong consistant signal exactly as it should have been. No drops. Fast downloads.
So - In my instance (and i'm sure many others) it was clearly a hardware issue.
Don't let apple fob you off with 'wait for an update'. The longer you wait the less time you will have to exchange and i promise that once the 'update' hits and people realise their handsets are still faulty - the stock will run out.

Sep 27, 2012 1:36 AM in response to Shanon.Robertsby oatherton,Hi Shanon.
I am currently residing in Singapore.
There are no official Apple Stores over here (other than online) so we just have resellers.
I got my phone from Singtel - one of the telecoms providers.
I took my faulty handset to the Singtel Apple and Blackberry service center yesterday.
They informed me that they were already out of stock on the 64gb black replacement models and that I would have to wait up to two weeks for a new shipment.
I received a text message at 1.30pm today to inform me that the new handsets had arrived (we are nice and close to China here I guess)
I went straight down and picked up my replacement handset in store (it came in a hard black plastic box which he then put the faulty handset into).
I checked for dead pixels and checked that the wifi was picking up singals.
I hope that helps.

Sep 27, 2012 1:37 AM in response to tobifsby borzy,My firmware is 1.00.16 also.
My issue has been intermittent cessasation of wifi working despite still connected to network. Sometime it works perfectly, sometimes it doesn't load page at all despite my wifi working fine when checked with my laptop.

Sep 27, 2012 1:52 AM in response to borzyby borzy,See this photo from speedtest.

You can see that the connectivity suddenly dropped after about 2 seconds into the test. Then picked up for a brief second just before end of upload test.
EDIT:
This is another.

Showing no activity for the first second of test, suddenly normal activity, then stops about 2 seconds before end of test then drops off.

Sep 27, 2012 1:58 AM in response to borzyby SingleMalt,Just to offer a counter experience. My iPhone 5 is the black 32GB model bought on 21 Sept. I have had no real problems with the wifi as such and it is able to catch the wifi at home and work (both secured) without problem. At home I have an Airport Extreme with WAP2. Internet access is good and fast - upload and download speeds are at par with my laptop. My older iPhone 4 and iPad are also connected. I don't have details of the work wifi but the iphone 5 recognises it everytime and logs on without problem. I had a few niggling issues withtrying to get it to sync with iTunes over wifi but that seems to be better now (not fully resolved but that's a different story).
My phone firmware is 1.00.16
Some of the details of the phone from this website http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html/ are:
Hope this helps in some way.

Sep 27, 2012 5:38 AM in response to Shanon.Robertsby arthurggonzales,I exchanged mine in Austin, Texas at the Domain, 11410 Century Oaks. I walked in 30 minutes early, signed in and as soon as i explained the issue of no wifi reception I didnt even have to wait, they just exchanged it. BTW, It was a Iphone 5, 64g, white produced in week 36 (September)
On another note I am also having trouble syncing with itunes over wifi, the computer cant seem to find the phone in order to sync.

Sep 27, 2012 6:59 AM in response to Shanon.Robertsby opmisk,My original phone with problems and my new phone that works perfectly have the same modem version. In fact, all iphone 5 users have the same modem version: 1.00.16. This has zero impact on the existing issues with wifi and connectivity to a WPA secured network.
