Q: iPhone 5 wifi issues

My iPhone 5 connects to wifi networks and remembers them, but receives absolutely zero data through the network. LTE and 3G no problem... Off to the repair shop (after 3 hours of ownership...) or any ideas??

iPhone 5, iOS 6

You can solve your wifi issues pretty easily.

    1) Go into Settings

    2)  Go into WiFi

    3)  Tap the blue arrow next to the wifi network you prefer to access

    4)  You will see various numbers and settings listed.  Take a screen shot to capture that information for future reference if you need to reenter it later by simultaneously pressing the on/off button and the circle button.  The screen shot will save to your Camera Roll.

    5) Delete the numbers to the right of DSN.  Enter 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4.  One of those should fix both wifi connectivity and download speed.

    6)  If this does not work, reenter the original DSN numbers you captured with the screen shot and set up a Genius Bar appointment.

Good luck!  I did this fix and have had no problems with dropped signals and blazing fast speeds.  The 8.8.8.8 works best with my network.

Hi... Entering DNS settings is to be considering a bandaid fix to the problem at hand. This is "not" a solution to a problem.

I've logged this to Apple as a BUG Report over the phone and also to their online team.

As for the Genious Appointment session, well you can forget about the Sydney CBD one, i had to walk out otherwise i'd be  laughing at their manager at the time whom i was dealing with. His comment was "if it works in the apple store, then there is no fault"

Another Apply guy there, i asked whether he actually read the APPLE forums to see if he was aware of these issues, and he said no he doesnt read them.

Im amazed their own staff dont even read their own support forums etc about whats going on with their own technology.

    Hi every one,

I hope this helps. I too was having sluggish wifi on my iphone5 and after trying all the things in the forums with no avail (Changing dns ;didnt work) putting test in client id and other things i decided to tweak with the settings on my home network and was able to get my wifi speed from <3mps to 10 mbps with multiple iphones on the network.

the settings i changed which fixed the wifi issue were the Multicast Rate which by default was set at auto i changed it to 36mbps i tried 54mbps but phone wouldnt connect at that rate and i also changed the NPHY Rate from auto to 39mbps and now my iphone is at 10mbps my over all router settings now are

    802.11 Band = 2.4ghz

    Bandwidth= 20mhz

    Control Channel= 10

    Basic Rate Set = all

    54g™ Protection = auto

    XPress™ Technology= Enabled

    Beacon Interval= 100

    DTIM Interval= 1

    Fragmentation Threshold= 2346

    RTS Threshold= 2347

    NPHY Rate = 4:39mbps

    802.11n Protection= Auto

    Multicast Rate = 36mbps

always do a back up prior to tweaking theses settings and its easier to use a wired connection to your router to tweak these settings i hope this helps.

if you want them laugh. Take another try compratir iphone and wifi, neither works.

The problem is that your wifi open and there is no faul.

    Only fault with WPA2 security.

If we go to a bar you please say that we remove the security of your router.

    do you want apple

Considering that the problem reported is an issue with wpa2 security, how do you think can solve the problem the change of a DNA server setting?

Infact obviously your fix doesn't work.

This list has any connection with ios6 and iPhone? This means I have to ask to my company to change all the wifi network so I can use my iPhone in wifi? Or this mean all the router wpa2 I have tried are fault? (And are 6 router I tried)

At home is very easy. WAP and put safety work for you , noy to do so many things. just does not work in WPA2.

But is not the answer, I want my home.

Instead of seeking such solutions, we had to report to APPLE

You did well.  And this completely highlights the root issue most people who have Wifi issues are facing.  The real issue is there are SO MANY blasted Wifi configurations out there.  It would be impossible to build one device that can accommodate ALL devices without hiccup in a percentage of those devices.  This is not unique to iPhone (regardless of version), though it is not particularly comforting to those who are having issues.

Read the Andoid forums.  Those who tout the Galaxy as the new nirvana, might be surprised to see they are also having Wifi connection issues.  Not all, but similar complaints.  Not to mention that the security flaw in Android , expecially on the Galaxy that was revealed yeterday  How comforting to know their device is open to disaster when can access a web site, and that site can literally wipe their phone clean.

I have no issues with Wifi on two new iP5 phones.  That doesn't mean that if I took the same two phones to someone's house who is having an issue that either phone would connect.  It's the variability of Routers and ISP's that cause pretty much all the issues.  Google has known about this security flaw since June, yet it was just made public this week.

So, people can come here and hope they find something that will resolve their issue.  Or they can complain that Apple let them down.  But the reality is they should be speaking with whoever their internet service provider is.  That is where the problem is and they should be able to walk people through either updating the bonjour data on their router (essentially updating the router's firmware) or other troubleshooting actions that will take them off this forum and on to enjoying their phones.

    Try it instead of answering

Yesterday Apple swapped my first iPhone5 for a new(er?) one.   The good news - battery on the new phone is about a billion times better than the old one.  Before I'd go through 10% in an hour (with phone locked), last night I went through 10% over the whole course of the night while I slept so way better.  Bad news, the new phone has the same wifi issues as the old one which leads me to beleive this is certainly software related.  I guess we wait for an update now.

l had the same problems with my Iphone 5. The Wifi Connection breaks down after

about 10 seconds. Another Problem was that my iphone always lost the wifi

connection ,when it returns from standby, so i had to re enter the wifi password

every time. it works now for about 4 days with every wifi and wpa2

protection. i restored my iphone to factory settings and configured it as a new iphone

( without icloud ). after that i configured the wifi settings MANUALLY. the iphone found my

wifi, but i tapped on "others" and typed in all informations of my wifi.

Now it works for about 4 days. hope i can help you. sorry for my english
