Q: iPhone 5 wifi issues

My iPhone 5 connects to wifi networks and remembers them, but receives absolutely zero data through the network. LTE and 3G no problem... Off to the repair shop (after 3 hours of ownership...) or any ideas??

Yeah they told me I could get a refund but I really want to keep iPhone 5. The phone is great apart from the wifi and the also the maps are now pretty rubbish but I have downloaded google so whilst I no longer have exactly the same google mapping as in the previous IOS it is better than the apple maps, also, my wifi appears to be stable at the moment so I will wait and see what happens over the next week or so. Hopefully everyone will get their issues sorted ASAP and can enjoy their iPhones as they should be able to with no glitches etc.

well my ipad and iphone 3GS are giving no wifi issues and no tweaking is required to router etc.

full wifi signal and no cutting off on other devices apart from iphone 5.

we have paid alot of money for the new iphone 5 and we are not responsible for the diagnostics etc

thats my point and clearly with so many other frustrated users.

You are dead right Driveline. We should just be able to use the Apple gear without needing to know how to change routers etc. Whilst I accept that there are always going to be glitches it's unacceptable to pay £700 for a phone and not be able to use it to its full capacity.  Apple should start acknowledging there is a problem rather than blaming their customers wifi set up. I for one would be far happier if Apple had admitted there was a problem and simply said they were trying to fix it!

HI this message is for TWOELEVEN!

I wanted to thank you personally for your recommendation about deleting Icloud from iphone 5.  My iphone 5 is now connecting to my wifi router automatically. I don't have to enter it manually now! I am so happy for the advice I received from your message !

Thanks again! I really don't use the Icloud feature. But I know that there are other apple iphone 5 users that do, I sure hope Apple finds a fix for this,.....and soon!

What I have experienced us that the wifi works if you are

Using the iphone near to the router location , my router is upstairs but

When I use the phone downstairs the wifi signal is not stable on the

iphone 5 but is stable on other devices !!

So imagine if you went to your place of work or to another place

Away from home you will most likely experience Instability !

So conclusion is that iphone 5 has wifi range issues and yet on the

Day of Release in their presentation we were told wifi was faster on iphone 5??

THIS MAY HELP THOSE WHO HAVE WIFI SPEED/DROPPING ISSUES

I completely understand this isn't the way it should be and that this simply isn't an option for many but...

The issue seems to be resolved IF you eliminate additional WiFi networks.

In my case, I had the same issues many reported - constantly dropped connections (unprotected connections, WPA, WPA2), extremely slow speeds (WEP over 802.11G), etc. After going through this forum, trying everything suggested, wiping the phone several times and everything else I could think of, Apple let me exchange the device thinking it was faulty hardware (which I still havent rulled out...). The replacement phone shows the same issue that I experienced prior.

However, In each case, these problems occured in places with multiple networks. Since I live in the middle of the woods so to speak, I could disable the additional networks in my house leaving only a single wireless source. Upon doing this, the problems seem to have just about resolved themselves. Apps are sometimes still a little hesitant to download but the problem has maybe reduced 85%. Worth a shot for anyone having an issue anyways - hope that helps!

I now have my wifi working and I noticed an even more disturbing issue.  My phone is using a ton of cell data while it indicates its on wifi....  This is bad, it shouldn't use any data while connected to wifi.  Anyway,  if you have been able to get your wifi working I recommend checking your data usage.  See this thread for more info.

It can't be an iphone 5 problem as I have bought an iphone 4 recently and just updated to ios6 and I am having wifi troubles. It won't remember my home network and the connection keeps being dropped when I do connect to it. I just recently decided to upgrade to a smart phone and chose Apple because I already have an Ipod and Ipod Touch that have worked almost flawlessly. This wifi problem could be a huge regret that I didn't go for the Android (free at Verizon, Iphone $100) if it doesn't get resolved with the quickness.

UPDATE FROM AT&T USER IN HOUSTON, TEXAS

NOTE: This is my experience. Your mileage may vary. I will tell you what happened. Your draw your own conclusion.

    1) Ordered my iPhone 5 (64GB w AT&T) on 09/19/2012. Received just eight days later. Very pleased with that.

    2) As soon as I got it set up, I noticed the problem. As long as I was just a few feet away from my WiFi router, I could get the signal. Move just outside the door of the room where the router was located, and the WiFi signal is GONE!

    3) Also seemed to be sketchy connectivity with LTE. It got so bad that turning LTE OFF was the only solution - otherwise, the phone would register NO signal at all.

    4) Went this morning - two days after receiving phone - to the AT&T store nearby. The silly "tech" there whips out a Samsung Galaxy, says "look I can get the WiFi signal here just fine!" as if that somehow had ANYTHING to do with the problem! They were far, far more concerned with my being upset - "just calm down, sir!" - than the fact that they had NO - ZERO!!!! - response for my problem!

    5) Called Apple Support. They listened carefully and documented everything I said. Within minutes, agreed to replace phone. I could get it shipped to me OR take it to the local Apple Store for replacement. I chose the latter.

    6) BEFORE I left for the Apple Store, I made an appointment through their website, for the "Genius Bar." ALWAYS do that; never just go to the Apple Store for support unless you've done that first!

    7) As soon as I got there - even though it was 45 minutes before the appointment - I "checked in" with the guy at the back of the store near the Genius Bar, so that he recorded that I was there and waiting for my appointment. ALWAYS do that!

    8) My appointment began ten minutes late; that's how swamped they were.

    9) Took the Genius about one minute to determine "yeah, he needs a replacement phone!" He got it out, swapped the SIM for me, had me WIPE AND DELETE the old phone, and then handed me the new one. I was able to restore from a previous iCloud backup, right there in the store!

    10) EVERYTHING works perfectly now. No more connectivity issues...and this freakin' iPhone 5 ROCKS!!!!!

So that's great news: but what about those of us who have to travel 5 hours to the nearest Apple store? And our only other options are to go phoneless for a week while they repair it, or get a loaner phone (which means a $700 hold on your bank account) while they fix it. I read all of these temporary solutions, people changing the DNS settings, getting new routers, standing NEAR their router etc.: The thing is, no one should have to do any of this. We paid for a new product. It should work fine. That's how it works, isn't it? Apple needs to do something about this, and soon. At least acknowledge the problem. This is becoming unbelievable on their part.
