Sep 29, 2012 9:50 PM in response to tobifsby Adam FL,I'm not having problems connecting and using wifi, but I think my iPhone 5 has poor reception range for wifi! Anyone else have poor range with wifi as compared to your other devices/prior phones?

Sep 29, 2012 9:56 PM in response to manueltechby Eric Maier,I think the folks that posted on the frequent iPhone5 encryption handshakes were on the right track. This is a real problem for those of us with affected units, and no amount of tweaking settings, resetting, or fretting will fix it. But try them, it's fun!
There is more and more publicity around this issue, which helps put the pressure on Apple for exactly the reason PSYCHOinMe posted.
And, PLEASE file a bug report.
Welcome to the world of "early adopters". This stuff happens.
At least Tim Cook didn't tell Maps users they were holding the phone wrong. It's a good sign. The iOS6 and iPhone 5 problems will be a good test to see what he's made of.
Keep on screaming folks! The squeaky wheel gets the grease!

Sep 29, 2012 10:49 PM in response to manueltechby PSYCHOinME,No just thought I would point out that it doesn't seem to be an iPhone 5 issue but an ios6 issue. But my iPhone 4 was made the week before your iPhone 5 in August 2012 so maybe it's a hardware or production issue for all iPhones made in a certain time frame. I just read a link where a lady has an iPhone 3GS and updated to ios6 and her phone is nonfunctional so I'm thinking now it might be software related only.

Sep 30, 2012 12:22 AM in response to tobifsby Emil880,I have the exact same problem and i could not get it to work no matter what. It's sad that they cant make sure to test such vital functions before letting it leave the factory.
Any way, since i didn't bought it directly from Apple i think i'm in trouble and besides that i've got quite a distance to the nearest Apple store. I bought it through a phone company on a contract (dont know the word for it in english right now :)) and i needed to take it to their store and have them to send it for a warranty ticket. I'm afraid i will get either the exact same phone back to me because they cant find any problems or i will get a new one and i dont know if it is any better unless they really test it before sending it back.
The lady in the store admitted that it's really a lottery since there is now way for me to test it before sending it to me. :(
Just crossing my fingers now that the replacement is alright!

Sep 30, 2012 1:21 AM in response to tobifsby Patrick_London,My iPhone 4 with ios6 works fine. But my iPhone 5 keeps hanging. With the speedtest.net app it sometimes hangs during the ping and always during the data upload test. I've rebooted the router multiple times.
The other wifi devices we have are experiencing no problems - including with speedtest.net: Samsung Nexus, MacBook, windows laptop, Apple TV, Linux box & iPhone 4.

Sep 30, 2012 1:36 AM in response to jaff456by Michael Singletary,Why would you have to do any of that? Apple doesn't repair iPhones in the same way it does Macs. They will replace your iPhone immediately in store or put you on a list for a replacement if there aren't any. In the second case, you walk out with your phone, provide no payment information for holds, and get an email and call when the replacement is ready for you to come pick up. It's not nearly as bad as you try to make it sound.
If going to an Apple Store is a hassle, you can call Apple Care and have them mail you a replacement. They do "authorize" the cost on your card, but it goes away within 48 hours and you get to use your phone while you wait for the new one.

Sep 30, 2012 1:49 AM in response to tobifsby mityoshi,I have a Netgear router and an iPhone 5. WiFi performance was terrible until I switched the router from b/g mode to g/n mode. Now WiFi is finally faster that LTE. Hope this helps someone.

Sep 30, 2012 1:53 AM in response to tobifsby john@7129,Ok, I'll add my story and data point to the discussion. I have had issues with the iPhone 5's WiFi from day one. I knew there was something wrong since none of my other iDevices have had any issues with WiFi for 5 years. and of course like everyone else I tried everything to get it to work and then Googled to find many others having the same issues. Here is my set up....
iPhone 5, iOS 6, AirPort Extreme (latest gen, dual band), WPA2.
I have no issues with my iPhone 4 (iOS6 on 2.4 GHz) and 3rd gen iPad (iOS6 on 5GHz). I cannot connect my iPhone 5 to the 5 GHz band of the network unless I am close to the router. As soon as I walk away the signal is dropped and Network forgotten until I get close to the router again. However I have found that the 2.4 GHz band works just fine. Not acceptable but at least I can play with my phone for now. I'm torn over just running on the 2.4 band or going through the pain of returning phones until I get one that works. This *****!
