time machine slow in 10.7.5

Since updating to 10.7.5 using the Combo updater, Time Machine on my iMac seems much slower. Anyone else seeing this behavior?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5), iMac 21.5 in.; i5; iPad 32Gb iOS 5.

I can confirm that after upgrade to 10.7.5 backup speed went down to the order of kB/hour. I found this hint on the web to stop spotlight. It helped perfectly but of course is not a permanent fix.

Stop spotlight by entering in the terminal:

sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist

Start sportlight (after the backup) with

sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist

Backup went back to full speed with spotlight turned off

Thanks John,

I'm going to wait a couple more days to see if Apple comes up with a fix for this fiasco. I may eventually move to ML, once I'm sure it is stable enough. I'm working overseas in India and there is very little in the way of Apple support here so I have to be careful with any upgrades.

In retrospect, it was a big mistake upgrading to 10.7.5 so fast. I've learned an invaluable lesson here. Wait to see the outcome and follow these threads more closely before taking the plunge.

Joshua305 & others ...

I agree, this not really a solution for all version and situations ...

I have tried all the fixes on a range of Macs (I run a Mac Support business) and none of them are full fixes.

I have also tested with OS X Server installs; over-installing 10.7 and upgrading to 10.7.4 = still not perfect for speed and TM. System still screwed, only a full wipe, install rebuild will do. Upgrading to OSX Server 10.7.5 and applying thses fixes still has issues. User uploaded file

And as I mentioned earlier,, the SpotLight issue effects other programs too, most notably and most often uses; Microsoft Outlook cannot search anymore :-(

Our only solution for the mo,ent is to try and get SpotLOught to actually turn off. Some systems are damaged and do not easily receive the SpotLight Terminal commands mentioned on thos thread.

We have managed to use CockTail sucessfully though.

So we are leaving SpotLight and TimeMachone off, and using CCCloner incremental timed every 6 hours to external HD's.

Even then the systems has issues with speed, opening windows & dialogue boxes (in varying degree's)

Expect to see protests outside Apple Stores and this issue on the International News methinks :-(

I received a reply from Apple this morning regarding the Bug Report that I submitted last Monday (the 24th of September) for these issues, to say that my report had been closed as it was a duplicate of one already submitted. They have highlighted that the issues are being dealt with under the following reference;

Bug ID# 12136478

It is being looked at, so I guess that we have to wait. I can live with this for now, as I don't really use Spotlight apart from within Outlook 2011. Backups are more important
