iPhone 5 yellow tint screen!?

Hey, well, as I am fully aware yet not expecting this for the iPhone 5, but yeah, I've got the yellow tint screen. Not the patches, the whole screen makes white look like ivory, and I don't know about you guys, but my retina/retinas in my eye/s do not make anything look ivory/yellow.


Does anyone else have this issue?

+ Do I take it to apple for a replacement screen?

Also it is not a glue issue. That is a poor excuse, it is all in who manufacturers the parts because they use different suppliers. It is pick of the litter and it was the same issue with the 4S and you would think they would want to make customers happy and if they did quality control they would see this is a huge variation, not slight, that I can understand. The normal displays are gorgeous compared to the yellow hue displays, it is not a slight difference because if that was the case, I would deal with it.

Also, I should not have to jail break my iphone to have a nice display. Not acceptable. I just want one that looks similar to the ones at the apple store and even the AT&T store display is perfect and Best Buy the display model was perfect. I am not that picky, slight difference is ok, this is drastic on all 4 I have had so far.

The yellow cast seems to be Apple’s intention. Maybe the yellow cast is a intermediate step towards the new energy saving (but yellowish) IGZO displays. Maybe the future (IGZO) iPhone won’t look too harsh in direct comparison with the yellowish calibrated (normal LCD) iPhone 5?

I purchased my iPhone 5 less than a week ago and of course it had the inferior yellow-biased display. It was notably apparent when compared to a family member's iPhone 5 with a much better "bluer" whitepoint. The differences between the two are night and day. I brought it back to AT&T where I purchased it, and the rep could clearly see what I was talking about when I held it up to the store model which had the better screen. AT&T retail swapped it for me and of course my replacement phone had the same yellow/green-biased display as my previous phone. I went to my nearest Apple retail store and pointed out the issue to the Genius who acknowledged that Apple sourced their display panels from various manufacturers. After calling the store manager over (who could not see what I was talking about), Apple agreed to replace the phone. Not surprisingly my second replacement phone has the same terrible screen as my two earlier iPhone 5s. Such a degree of difference in display quality is unacceptable and Apple really needs to get their act together regarding this. At this point I am tempted just to return the phone and wait for the iPhone 5S.

Ok I already said it many times! If you get one of those ugly units return them and buy it again somewhere else until you get the right color. I think that happened to the first new units. Now they seem to be fine. I lost my phone and I thought I would get a yellow one, what were the chances really? But I did not. I got a good one. Still warmer than my iPhone 4, but not as yellow as before. The whites are crisper. And overall reflect better contrast. Just swap it. If apple does not play fair, then neither should you.

I think it's interesting that the display models don't seem to have this yellow tint while nearly all the actual stock does - makes me think that Apple is fully aware of this "problem" but is a bit arrogant towards their customers with an "it'll do for them" attitude.


I've had iPhones since the 3G and Have two iPads in the house but I do think Apple are starting to slip of late - thinner iMacs for the sake of being thinner (uneccesary considering the depth of the stand) while removing useful things such as disk drives, switching to their own largely criticised maps app because they didn't want us using Google's one etc. It all seems like user experience is starting to take a back seat to arrogance (Apple have always put the user first until recently). Worries me as this attitude reminds me of Microsoft...

I took my phone back, and the guy at Best Buy opened up another one, I kid you not the screen was so yellow it almost looked brown. He said wow that is a huge difference. I do not understand why this is happening and so many people are returning phones and the one on display was perfect. I do not understand why they don't want to fix this to keep customers happy and also every single display model I have seen is the perfect screen and all exactly the same. They want customers to see the display and want the phone and then they sell you one with a completely different display. I can't be bothered returning devices and dealing with this. I am going to try the Galaxy S4. This is too much of a headache for me.

Jimrod76, do you currently have an iPhone 5 now? The last yellow tinted one I had was also so fluorescent yellow it was blinding me. I took it at the AT&T manager and he compared it to the ones on display and he said he knew exactly what I was talking about. He said it is almost like the settings were off and the device was not configured correctly or calibrated, I forget the exact term he used. Even though it was yellow, you could not read anything on the phone becaue of the glare and it looked like a light bulb was under the screen and even on dim it was horrible. So I called an apple supervisor. She claims she never heard of the yellow tint issue. The 4S is the exact same way so I think this is the new thing. The only nice models are the ones on display.

My son just got one, he had the same serial number as mine, his is NOT yellow and he has the perfect display, his girlfriend got one also, hers is yellow. Both black 16gb. I m currently dealing with an apple supervisor. I compared every Galaxy s4 and every single one has the same color display. The guy at AT&T said it appears it wasn't calibrated correctly and he thought it looked terrible. He said the cooler backround on the floor model was 100 times better and he would not keep a phone that looked like that. I am avoiding the phone all together at the moment and trying to get some attention to the situation from apple. You can express your displeasure to apple because they are claiming they got no reports on a yellow screen.

I have now had four iPhone 5s in the timespan of two weeks (original retail model, retail swap at AT&T, and two Apple white box replacements) and all of them have yellow tinted displays and one replacement also had severe interlacing vertical lines. I have been to two Apple stores and nearly all of the display models have the superior iPhone 5s with more accurate "cooler" whitepoints. I do not buy into the "glue drying" excuse and I guess my only option is to keep get replacements until I get one with a good screen.

After going to the Apple store again, the genius tried swapping 5 white box replacement phones for me and all had yellow/brown tinted screens and interlacing issues. The genius could see the issue and submitted a case to Apple. I called Apple and they agreed to send me a brand new retail phone. The phone arrived today and has the same inferior screen. Terrible interlacing and yellow tint. Apple must of switched display vendors as I am 0 for 10 at this point on getting an iPhone with a cool, crisp screen.😠
