My IPhone 5 arrived with a yellow screen just like you described. It was yellow from corner to corner, not blotchy.  Apple said that it happens, but its not what they mean to sell, so they replaced it.  The new one is just as yellow.  The dingy yellow background makes for poor contrast.  The screen looks terrible. I'm very disappointed.  I read about others returning many devices to get one good one, but that is not acceptable. I replaced mine once, the second one also has the same problem. I think I'm done with the iPhone. How about Sam%*ng?

Sam%*ng? The Super Amoled looks purple in comparison to the yellow iPhone5. Is that any better? :-)

I ordered another 3 iPhone 5 (From various sources, in different sizes) to see if all iPhones over here in Europe have a yellow screen. I hope to see at least one with a better display. The phones will be available in 5-7 weeks.

As soon as I receive them, I’ll post pictures of the screens in comparison.

set it up the way you want in conditions you want then turn off auto brightness. you have a compromise.

and with regards to some one using lines on google page via a browser...i bet your using safari which is not  color managed so thats useless. you have different sceen technology this year  and the yellow has gone away on a unit i saw that was yellow when new... 4-5 days later normal.

With the kind of money they charge, you shouldn't care if they have even a 100 open monitors in warehouse.

Well I got mine at launch, use it all the time, had it on for 6 hours full brightness with white screen etc. and I can safely say - the colour hasn't changed and the tint is not affected by brightness on mine. I think many people get used to the colour tint over time, I still don't like sickly flesh tones and creamy whites so I've not adjusted, as I bought direct from carrier I'm not even sure they'll accept it as a return issue or by the sounds of it if I'd get one that's any better if I swapped it. Looks like I'll have to jailbreak just so I can fix the colours on this "better" screen... :\

Well I posted one of the originals on this thread and true to my word I did go to

my local Apple store ....twice in two days!! I tried my iPhone against all 10 of their in store demos and was convinced mine was yellow? I've since learnt not to compare it to my old iphone4!!! I decided to exchange even if they thought I was barmy.....and I wasn't overly sure the new exchange was any different....but I thought to myself it can't be no worse! Wether I've just got used to it or not sometimes I think yessss this is much much better and other times I am not so sure.....but it's 2 wks old now and I guess this is as good as it gets, overall I'm glad i exchanged and i am happy with the outcome....albeit shocked this gad to occur initially :-D

It's been about 3 week since I got my iPhone 5 and still the screen is yellow every time I compare it to my iP4 and my wife's iP4S.  I've been using it with full brightness setting for more than a week now. Should I try and get it replaced at the apple store? I bought it from apple.com.  I plan on making an appointment for this weekend. Should I just tell them right away that I want to exchange it because of the yellow screen?

  • ATP.CFI Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Just tell them you don't like a yellow screen. I bet 100$ all the iPhone 5 on display are NOT yellow

They will change it, but chances are you will get another yellow screen.

I have a yellow screen too, but I mainly notice the yellow trend when compared to my old iPhone 4.

I was going to change it, I went to the Apple store, they were ready to give me another one, but then I gave up.

Since they will change it due to yellow screen, why not waiting for other issues, like scratches?

Then after 11.5 months just get a new one for free...

    Cheers!

I like that idea. So if the yellow screen is still a problem after 11 mos then we can still ask for an exchange because of it? hmmmm.

I'm in the same boat. Just got my iPhone 5 on Friday and am very dissappointed. The current screen definitely has as yellow tint to it, and, when viewed next to my wife's 4, seems to have less contrast and sharpness (perhaps due to the tint). I find this unnaccpetable mostly b/c one of the largest selling points that Apple has made in recent years is the advent of the retina display. But what good is this disply if it's going to be hobbled by these types of issues? I'm attaching a photo just taken an hour or so ago of mine and my wife's side by side. Her's, an iPhone 4 is on the left, mine, a new iPhone 5 is on the right. Wishing I had the look of her screen:

Are all iphone 5s like this, I mean did Apple choose for them to be this way or is this a faulty product and a clearer bluer screen exists?

  • icon707 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

THAT is a good question! I saw pictures of different levels of yellow screens. But how many white displays can you find out there? Are there 95% yellow screens? Or just 50% or less?

So what might be the reason for Apple to deliver a darker, yellow cast display with less contrast than the 2 year old iPhone 4? I think, the picture of »Cory Smith 1« definitely shows a faulty iPhone5 display.

This is how my iPhone5 32GB looked next to an iPhone4::

Is that what Apple calls »perfect«? ;-) Now I have to wait for my 3rd exchange (delivery time in Germany is now 10 weeks at T-Mobile). I hope to get it before 2013.

I had the yellow tint issue.  Eventually over weeks it started to get white in the middle, but the yellow remained on the sides.  On the 30th day (last day under our plan to replace) I asked our IT staff to order a replacement.  It was on 3 week backorder.  By the time it came the yellow was not very noticable, I compared it to the replacement, the replacement phone was washed out and yellowish throughout.  So I am sticking with the original.  Just my experience--give your phone the full return time before you swap it out, and compare it to the swap before switching.

I have the same problem of yellow tint screen and i realize that a lot of IPHONE 5 in apple stores have the same problem !

It's really hard to get used with it ! Iphones 4 and 4S were more bluish and whites were white and not yellowish...

Now in the menus, the white background appears to be yellowish, its really awfull !

A lot of my friends who have bought the Iphone 5 too, have the exactly same problem and complain about it !

SO PLEASE APPLE, AND ENGINEERS FROM APPLE, COULD YOU PLEASE MODIFY THE COLOR PROFILE IN THE NEXT UPDATE OF IOS 6 ! So whites will appear to be really white on screen...

We would be so pleased to see that Apple continue to take care of its customers !

And i say this in the name of a lot of customers who also complain...

    Thank you Apple
