Clarify what about it?
iCloud storage is on Apple's servers (in iCloud) accessed over the internet. Device storage is the physical storage space provided in your device (the 16GB, 32GB or 64GB listed in the specifications).
What gets put where...it says my iPad Cloud storage is 12.5 GB but device is 195MB...how can I use cloud storage to free up device storage? I need to complete the software upgrade but can't due to low device storage.
Why don't you just do the upgrade using iTunes? Then you don't have to clear any space.
I agree, buying another service doesn't answer the question. What is the iCloud storage (paid for version) for then? How is it different from using iTunes? And what is the difference between saving on your PC via iTunes, using itunes match, backing up on icloud or icloud storage. Argh!!! 😕
iCloud storage serves a single purpose. To store backups of your device in the cloud. That's it, you have no direct access to it other than when performing a backup or restoring a device from one.
You don't store purchases there or rentals, or anything bought from the stores. The backups contain the data from your currently installed Apps though, which is why they can be very big. Any files in your Apps will be stored automatically in the backup.
The reason to purchase more iCloud storage is if you have say more than one device or one with lost of stuff, then the backup may be very large and not fit in the default 5GB.
Backing up to your PC is essentially the same as iCloud except you are only limited by the amount of Hard drive space on your computer.
