I have an old HP 3200 laser printer that refuses to die and which prints well. I have not been able to find a substitute driver to allow it to be operated by our Mac. Has anyone found one that works?

The printer do supported on Mountain Lion for printing, however no longer support scanning on the OS:

You may follow the steps below to install the printer on Mountain Lion:

If you have any issues getting the update via Apple Software Update you may also install the following package which include the latest drivers, then simply add the printer under Print & Scan:

I followed the steps, but I have been unable to get the 3200 to print properly. I did a manual download of the most recent drivers and both allowed the Mac to select the HP3200 driver as well as selecting it myself, but no go (it prints out a single line on the first page, something like %!PS-Adobe-3.0%APL_DSC_Encoding: UTFS %APLProducer: (Versino 10.8.2 (Build 12C%4). Oh, well. I may just use it for my PC.

STOP THE PRESSES! I just changed the driver to the HP3200 Gutenprint 5.2.3 driver and it worked! Go figure!

You may get the 3rd party GutenPrint drivers from the following link:
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
After installing Gimp go to Print & Scan and add a new printer.
Select the printer and click Select Printer Software from the Use / Print Using and select the GutenPrint / GIMP driver of your printer.

I went to the GutenPrint site but they do not have the HP PhotoSmart 3200 CUP drivers..?

Photosmart 3200 Series drivers are included or available on 10.8. You should not need to use Gutenprint.
