I am currently running my mac book pro on Mac OS 10.5.8. I want to upgrade to the new 10.8 OS. How can i do this properly? Do I need to upgrade to OS 10.6 or 10.7 first, or is it possible to jump directly to 10.8?

You need to go through 10.6, which is available by phoning the Mac App Store, or use FireWire Target Disk mode to perform the installation from a compatible Mac. In the second case, install 10.8 onto a separate partition or drive without overwriting or erasing the existing system; as this method doesn't check that the MacBook Pro is compatible with 10.8, not preserving the system may leave it in an unbootable configuration.
