I have the same problem. I have an iphone 4s and the problem occurs when I am charging.. But these problem has only started since I upgraded to IOS 6 - so maybe its something to do with the software.

I too have had issues. I have found that my screen only freezes after a phone call when I have either wifi or LTE turned on. If I keep the these off the phone funtions perfectly. I guess I'll head to the Apple store.

I've got the iPhone 5 black, and I've touchscreen freezing problems when charging (and listening to music) from the wall plug...I've already had a new phone and created a new profile without using my back up, and it still is the same, I've got a Genius appt tomorrow in store, I'm not holding much hope up here

I have exactly the same problem. The iphone 5  freezes, or goes nuts switching from app to app, sometimes making calls when I hover with my finger on screen, notr even touching it. This is unacceptable. My first iphone experience . I will take it back and demand a replacement

I think the instance of this is pretty high. I am having the same issues.

Granted, in spite of the snarky comments of some of the forum users, the rate of defect on this is not acceptable and seems to be excessive. I am wondering if there shouldn't be a recall or a serious investigation because there seems to be a substantial deficit in their quality control measures.

I have had my iphone 5 since late september. i have constantaly been having problems since day one. the date and time change radomly change and the touch screen clicks at things i didnt click at, and miss clicks ALL THE TIME! i switched from android to get away from these problems. looks like the iphone5 has more problems than any of the previous android phones i have owned. Even when i was setting the phone up, the touch screen wouldn't work. i hope they change this sometime soon with some kind of software update!

I had the same issue with mine . It happens most oftenly when I have the phone plugged in and charging. I found that unplugging it did the trick, but obviuosly thats not a permanent fix. I went to my nearest apple store and they replaced my phone after originally restoring my phone and reinstalling ios6.0 didn't fix the problem.

3 Main issues I had right out of box:

1.)  Phone would not reconnect to known password protected wifi networks

( I would enter the wifi password ,it would work fine. If i came back into that network another day it wouldnt reconnect.  I would have to forget the wifi network then re-enter the wifi password)

2.) Screen would freeze or be unresponsive , or spotty with my touch

3.)  Screen froze up a couple times, rebooted itself and brightness flickered for a while . Even after I rebooted the phone.

So far , Wifi issue and screen brightness flickering hasnt happened with my replacement, but the phone still tends to be slightly unresponsive to touch while being charged using the factory lightning cable and ac/dc cube wall charger

I previously posted about my  iphone 5  freezing, or going nuts switching from app to app, sometimes making calls when I hovered with my finger on screen, not even touching it.

Called ATT they were useless. They said bring it in and they would send off and charge me a restocking fee. You have to be kidding.

    Went to the Apple Store.

My experience could not have been better. In the end thy tried reistalling software - did not work- so they quickly gave me a new phone.

Well done Apple. I am a beliver again

Same problem as described by many others on this post.

Problem:  Screen freezes, screen non-responsive to touch, delayed reaction, numbers being pressed by itself while on call, pressed home button but one of the icons at the bottom gets pressed by itself, etc.

    1.  After calling Apple Care and going through all of the OS restore and Data Backup Restore and no improvement, we determined that I needed to take it into the store to be evaluated by one of the Genius Bar guys.

    2.  At the store, one of the Genius Bar guys suggested that we swap it out for a new phone and do the data backup restore.  NEW PHONE WORKED.

Cause:   It was the touchscreen hardware issue!

FYI - I ordered my original phone online and had it shipped directly from China.  The replacement phone was what they had in the store.  I wonder if there's a difference in quality.

Ok I have figured out the problem. It is caused by a faulty power adapter. I had my phone plugged in with the small cube adapter but I believe I got it from a friend. Anyhow, i noticed the touch screen was all glitchy and if I tap and hold, the screen would sort of jitter and flicker up and down. I swapped out the adapter with a newer one and instantly the problem was resolved.

I believe the problem lies in the adapter, there must be a short or something caused by the new all digital lightning cables with probably an analog adapter. No need for replacement phone or apple store visits. Just get a new adapter. Trust me.

got mine yesterday, the touch screen is almost non responsive, have to hit it multiple times to work , I cant believe apple released this phone with this many issues

  • fecklessderek Level 1 (0 points)

even though my replacement model is working fine, I still feel like the screen is not as responsive as any of my other myriad of "i" devices.  I think the new screen with the built in capacitive sensor just may not be as good of a piece of hardware as the previous tech.

If the phone screen is not repsonive enough I suggest you take it back. Apple have a repoutation to live up to  in terms of product excellence. Mine works fine now they have changed the phone

I just received my iPhone 5 yesterday after waiting 3 weeks for them to ship it out. Figured most of the bugs had been worked out by now. It worked flawlessly until I did the software update on iTunes and now nearly everytime I go to unlock it I have to swipe my finger 20 or 30 times to get it to unlock. Now here is the weird part, everything else works perfect after I get it to unlock. There is no glitching, no slow response, no lack of responsiveness to be seen. I've jumped from Facebook, my emails, texting, etc to no avail. All of this while listening to Pandora in the background. Also if I lock it and try to unlock it shortly (couple of minutes or so) after it works. But if I let the phone sit for any length of time I have to keep swiping the unlock bar to get it to work again. Any input? Oh, I've only used the original Apple charger it came with and it does it with or without charging. Also have tried all this with and without the Otterbox on it. Same deal either way. I've done a full restore with iTunes already and it worked perfect for the first 10 minutes or so then it starts up again. To me it seems like a software problem if restoring it makes it work initially. Prior to me restoring it I spend 10 minutes atleast trying to get it to unlock and nothing would happen.
