    Katzschner is right!

I live in Mexico City (not a cold place at all), yesterday I went out for dinner and it was EXTEMELY cold on the terrace (about 7º) so that´s when my IP5 stopped working propperly. Seems like the phone comes from a tropical envirnonment because cold literaly makes it die.

Do you guys know if Apple already has something planned to fix this? I mean, most likely it´s a hardware issue but...

My 5 arrived last night.  It's as if there is a phantom finger pressing the screen center-bottom.  When trying to take a photo the camera flashes by itself.  I am nowhere near the screen.  When I'm in the App Store it will change from Featured or top charts to Genious all by itself.  When I am in the text keyboard it will type a space and "v" all by itself.  Incredibly frustrasting.

im having the same problem. since launch day. on 3rd iphone 5. just general touch sensitivity is off. especially near the edges of the screen.

im thinking that maybe it has to do with the ios6 ipad mini software where touches near the edge are determined to be real or fake by the software.

What I don't get is with my phone as long as I do a restore it works perfect for awhile and then starts acting up again. Seems like its a software problem or something. Almost like it's storing information to a point that it doesn't recognize that someone is touching the screen. Because once I get the screen unlocked it works perfect. At this point I'm at a lose. I just did a restore from "recovery mode" to see if that helped. I drove to the AT&T store today and they gave me a number to call come Monday. I'll explain my problem to them, let them know I'm not the only one apparently with this problem and that I expect this to be fixed quickly. This is BS over. I had to get a new phone because my Samsung Captivate was shutting itself off and the speaker stopped working keeping me from hearing an incoming phone call. After all my friends raved about how great their iPhones were I gave into the dark side. Only to get shafted yet again. If this persists I'll demand a replacement of a phone of equal value (something running Android).

    westlawn 51:

I have had the iPhone 5 for a couple of weeks now and I think it is perfect. I do not understand why all these jealous iPhone 4 people keep trash talking the 5. I have not had this problem before so you should maybe take it to the Apple Store. Don't let anyone else in on this or else there will be more trash talk and the iPhone 6 will probably be terrible because Apple engineers might feel as if the general public didn't support Apple even though almost everybody buys their products.

P.S. I'm not saying this as hate message, but rather to tell all those iPhone 4 owners to bug-off.

I have the same problem with Iphone 5 touchscreen locked up. Home button/ power buttons were still working when the touchscreen was locked up. To overcome the locked up temporary by pushing power button then the locked up occurred again within 5-10 sec. That was very annoy. I noticed 90% locked up occurred when I was using treadmill with headphone. Would the static make the touchscreen go  nut especially dry weather in past few weeks?

I have tried to do "device Reset", restored... but the problem is still there...

I booked appointment with Genius Bar today, they did DFU and restored all my settings through iCloud.  I will wait for few days if that works, otherwise I will demand to replace with new one.

I would not call those tech support working for Apple as Genius. They should DO root cause analysis before doing DFU

It is kind  of embarrassing to tell Android boys this issue. It's serious!

Hi I was charging my iPhone and phone rang and I couldn't pick up because the screen had frozen this is a new problem

I am using original charger to charge my iPhone 5

    I had the same problem.

Make sure that both the ac/Dc cube charger and the cable are original apple parts . If one is not it will make your screen glitchy!

  • first_ifone5 Level 1 Level 1

Visited apple store and they did dfu but it did not help.

I was able to capture in video when iphone 5 working to locked up touchscreen.

I came back and showed to them. So they went ahead to replace the iPhone for me.

So far I have not encountered with touchscreen locked up for new iphone.

    Time will tell...

This is a common problem with my old phone, (htc sensation), so when it happened to me on my iPhone 5 I knew exactly what it was. It's the outlet you are using to charge the phone. It's not grounded properly or at all. easy way to tell in the US is if its a two prong outlet.

Plug your Iphone 5 into your pc and see if the problem goes away. I tested my theory at my house. We have an old Dutch Colonial that was built in 1928. There are two non grounded outlets on top of our mantel over the fire place.

While plugged in to one of these non grounded outlets, the screen goes nuts when I touch it. If I unplug it from there and into a grounded outlet it starts working normally again. It's possible that if every outlet in your house causes this problem that there might be a problem with your main ground.

Check it out and post back.

There was also some speculation that it had something to do with static from using a non grounded outlet which caused a phone that was charged by a non grounded outlet to build up a static charge that causes it to act up when it's not being charged. I just plugged mine into my non grounded outlet to test so it wasn't plugged in for more than a few seconds. Sure as **** though, as soon as I plugged it into the non grounded outlet there was a touch screen problem.

I started noticing that on my new iphone5.  After reading through the posts, I noticed that I did have the phone connected to the charger.  I disconnected the phone and the touch screen is now back to normal.

Just take it to your carrier. My dad did and they upgraded him to a 32GB iPhone 5 from a 16GB iPhone 5.

  • waquzy Level 1 Level 1

I have had my iPhone 5 for three days now, same thing, the screen does not respond to touch sensitivity around the edges, have to touch it multiple times to actually get it working, very annoying
