It is indeed a Simpel Charger problem - My iPhone 5 nvr had problem when charging frm MBA - possibly there is EMI interference betw charger & screen - Just use the older iphone 4 Charger with the USB of the lightening charger in it

I had the same screen jittering issue whenever I used the iphone 4s while it was plugged into the charger. I then realized it was the aftermarket adapter plug that was causing the issue.

You using an after market plug adapter? If so try the one that came with your phone or buy the official apple one. Mine is fine with the adapter that came with the phone. Screen is unresponsive with after market adapter.

To all of you guys on this support forum talking about this issue your having right now you all have an iPhone 5 with AppleCare. I'm not trying to be rude but you guys are making a big deal out of nothing and they will fix it and give you a brand new phone. If it were another company you wouldn't even be getting support for it. Again I mean the best I would be mad too if it were happening to mine. However, Apple is going to fix what you people are experiencing. I can tell you from my experience for about four iPhone 5s that my family have had they all work perfectly and work better than any phone I've seen out there. Guys if you have AppleCare use it they will help you and try to fix your problem and explain your frustrations to them, the will give you a new phone. Again I don't know how you feel and it's probably very frustrating but consider it. They aren't going to give you a product that's faulty or unusable. Trust me guys its way better than switching to some random android phone. Best of luck to all of you guys!

My wife's iphone 5 (16gb, Verizon) now has this problem.  Keyboard lags about two seconds behind a push.  It even sticks!  She hits the del key to back on up and is stays down and deletes her text.  Reboot didn't do anything.  My iphone 5 works fine.  Thought it may be LTE lag that I saw reported but that isn't the case. I am going to have her return the phone.  Our phones are 7 days old.

I have just found out this problem with mine. I did some empiric testing and found out something quite interesting.

Same thing, plugged with the lightining cable either to USD port or wall charger, no response from touch screen.

Now, I have a hard case protection, so I don´t have contact with the aluminum body of the iphone. Taking the case off, now touching the aluminum, plugged to the cable, the screen is totally responsive.

It probably has something to do with statics. And also poor engeneering, in my humble opinion.

Maybe this is what is happening with you guys also.

My wife just got off of the phone with Verizon who had her do a hard reset.  It made the problem worse.  Phone now shut down during a text and the virtual keys on the keyboard would stick.  He said to take it back to verizon store to get a new phone as he could only send out refurbs.  He did mention issues with LTE causing pausing too but this is not the issue in this case.

    Just an FYI...

I had my second iPhone 5 replaced with a new iPhone 5 due to the fact that whenever I had my iPhone charging, my screen would go nuts i.e. unresponsive, random events (like my phone has been hacked). So, to clarify, I've only had this phone for a half a day and now (again, BRAND new phone) it's showing the same exact problem my last phone had. I did use my last back up but I don't see how this would cause a problem since I created it weeks prior to this issue popping up . The guys at the Apple Store said it's a hardware issue. They took my last phone and the charging cable to the back to test it but couldn't reproduce the noticeable problems. The guy came back and replaced my iPhone with a new one and said my cable was fine. So as of right now, I have no idea why this issue would pop up. Again, this is only happening to me when I have my iPhone plugged in and charging. It's very frustrating....

I also have been having that problem.  phone works fine and never a glitch unless its plugged in.  the other morning my phone called my wife once and my sister three times in a row all by itself.  No other people were called but my wife and sister were the only people I had talked to in a few days.

This situation is quite confusing. The fact this problem only occurs while my phone is plugged in my bedroom (I have been using an extension cord). I've tested my phone out by charging it in my car and from MacBook Pro through out the day. I couldn't replicate the issue. Again, it only happens in my room...

Now, I'm plugged directly into the wall in my bedroom and I haven't been able to replicate this touchscreen issue. I'm wondering if it was my extension cable causing the problem...

  • james832001 Level 1 (0 points)

"Sigh" my phone has been plugged in directly into the outlet minus the extension cord for at least 20 minutes and the touchscreen issues are back.

Going to try to wipe my phone and start from scratch.
