    They produce millions of these things in a short period of time. There are always going to be some with issues. It is really just statistics. Getting all ****** about it isn't going to do anything. The replacement they gave me works perfectly. Also if you have access to a retail store, don't be too worried about getting a replacement. They always have a back stock of replacement phones that are just phones without the packaging and accessories for that specific purpose.

    This is my first iPhone and a bit dissapointed. Having problems with the screen display too......vertical lines appear....seen them twice already and keep flickering. Called Verizon and was asked to reboot and watch if same thing happens. So far okay....but then tdy was just my first day with the iPhone. Let's see what happens......

    My final (hopefully) resolution is now a replacement phone. After working with Apple CS for the past 24 hours they have decided it needs to be replaced ASAP and will be sending me a new one - and then sending this one to their engineering team to further diagnose the issue.


    I'd highly recommend to anyone seeing this issue to either visit a Genius bar and/or call Apple CS as replacment seems to be the best and only real option.


    I'd like to give a shoutout to my Apple CS rep, he was excellent to work with and all around the experince was as good as it could be given the situation.

    My phone was freezing right out of the box.  It took hours just to get it through the setup phase.  I keep it plugged into the computer charging since I got tired of dealing with it and it was getting late. I woke up this morning, got dress to take it back to Verizon and have them turn my old phone back on just so I could have a phone to use.  I notice I had a text and while I was unplugging the phone I decided to try and see if I could get the text and it worked without freezing.  I have been using it all day and it's been working just fine.  Well it's about 11:30 pm and the battery is half used which was in the same spot it was when I got it and now it is freezing and will not work. Frustrating.  I have an appointment with the Genius people at the Apple store so I will update you guys then.

    I wish they all had replacements, The only Apple store in my area does not have a 64gb model to replace mine.  Apple is going to call me back on Monday to let me know what we are going to do.  I hope I am not stuck with a phone that I can't use for a week.

    I was having the same problem with the touch screen, but I noticed that it only happened when the charging cable was pluged in.I tend to use my phone by the bed while it is charging. When i unplug the cable, it works perfectly, but when i plug it in and start to use it, it starts to act up again. i wonder how many of you where pluged in and charging while having the problem with the touch screen. Hope this helps!

    I got mine replaced today. Apparently it was the first case they seeing for iPhone 5 at my telco Apple Service Centre. So far so good. No screen hanging. Hopefully it stays this way. Wasted 19 bucks on screen protector for my previous phone. Had to purchase a new protector.

    Well I had my appointment at the apple store and they had to replace my phone.  It froze up last night and was still frozen when I got to the apple store today.  I could not unlock the phone even though i had two text messages that popped up, it was just frozen at the unlock position.  I have my new phone that seem to work well so far.  If anyone is having problems don't call Verizon, just make an appointment with the apple genius.  The Verizon tech was trying to call apple while I was on the phone because he did not know what to do next.  The apple techs were helpful and friendly.

    Same problem here. Got my iPhone 5 on launch day. Here I am on my holiday still in the airport. The phone is just not working now. So frustrated.

    I took mine into Apple today and they were very nice and replaced it right away.  So far so good with the new one!

    The Apple Service Center technician forgot to update my warranty. I had purchased and activated Apple Care on my old faulty touch screen iPhone 5. Had to call technical support up to port over my warranty to new iPhone 5 which they replaced for me.


    So guys do take note of your warranty if you've already extended it on your old phone after replacement.

    In addition to my iPhone having these issues:

    - Randomly frozen touchscreen (FIX: quickly locking/unlocking your phone 2 times, or pressing the lock button 4 times)

    - Typing "L", "O", and "Enter" whenever I try to type. (No fix found :( )

    - Touchscreen responding when mere millimeters above the screen (FIX: open multitasking bar, lock, then unlock, but this doesn't always work)

    - Registering touches in the wrong area, usually the corners and edges (No fix found :( )

    - Delayed response to touches (FIX: lock/unlock 2 times, or press lock button 4 times)


    My iPhone also scrolls pages without me touching the actual screen.

    Let me explain why this is somewhat cool, but odd:

    I tend to run my finger along the edge of my phone, and since I'm right handed, it's always on the right side. So when I got this one, I did the same thing. Before I found the other issues, I noticed that it actually scrolled through webpages when I did this, as if I were touching the screen. I started to use this, thinking it was pretty freaking cool, and wondering why Apple wasn't advertising this. But I noticed today that it was getting even more sensitive, which is somewhat disconcerting, because I do it unconsciously, and I'd end up at the bottom of my newsfeed all of a sudden.

    All of the following issues also began showing up today as I noticed it was doing this. It froze once yesterday, and I didn't think much of it. When I got home from work today, it froze every five minutes.


    I think it has to do with the new screen, new positioning of internal magnets, the new aluminum band, or possibly all three. Here's what I think, and I'm just taking a shot in the dark here:

    •I would think that the aluminum casing would absorb static electricity from your body and clothes, as well as anything else you put it against. Since the screen responds to electrical changes, this could possibly explain why I could scroll using the side.

    •The magnets in the phone itself could be askew, and causing the screen to react to those as well as your finger.

    •The new screen is too sensitive.

    I had (and have) a similar problem as Carloski.  When charging (and laying flat), my touchscreen is not responsive or 50% responsive at best.  I returned it to the apple store after dealing with a tech on the phone who told me to reboot/restore/etc.  The Apple store couldnt find the problem so they replaced the phone.  The new phone is also having this problem.  Its an annoyance, but I am waiting to hear what others have to say before replacing this second phone.
