    Lint in the connector hole was my problem.

    After reading a number of posts, I got out my flashlight and dental probe (toothpick should work too) and started digging. The lint from my pocket had deposited and packed down to the point where the cord wouldn't seat. It apparently doesn't take much!  After removing all the lint, I could see the white base.

    Now all my connectors/adapters/charge stands work perfect, even my cheapo $3 ones from China, and I haven't even electrocuted myself.

    I remember having the same problem with the speakers on my old iPhone3 way back in '07

    This is why I'm so glad I use a Griffin Survivor case for my iPhone 5. Yes, it's bulky, but I have small kids around me all the time, so my phone is well protected...and the lightening port and earphone jack are covered and protected. So I shouldn't have this problem, and if I do it will be rare/after a long time. Had the problem once when I got the phone at first, haven't since.

    I had the same problem after about 6 months of use. I also cleaned out a huge amount of lint. Now, however, even with the port clean, I'm getting a very flaky connection. If I gently push the connector toward the back of the phone, the cable disconnects. It is to the point that I can simply have the phone on a desk with the cable connected and then thump the top of the desk with my hand and the phone spazzes out and chirps away from the bad connection. Guess I'm getting to an Apple store before my 1 year warranty is gone.

    It's not a lint problem. The internal wire has snapped but may still make contact depending on how the cord is positioned. Warranty will cover this but it will get expensive when the warranty expires. I can't believe there hasn't been a recall on these cheap things. I'm in my 3rd cord this year and have never had a problem like this before.

    Mine was a lint problem.  Kicked out the lint and it still was flaky. Scrapped a bit more out and finally it has a strong connection again.

    I have the same problem, in addition to more bad histories with apple Iphones, first my brand new iphone 5, that I have use it for less than 1 month is not charging even by computer USP or by electrical original plug, suddenly the plug itself exploded on the same day, I’m trying to get explanation for what happen, the problem was the original lightning socket is not well made and very weak and easy to internally damage, the week welding for the thin wires made a short circuit caused that explosion to the plug, the is unsafe cable to use when I decide to buy another one I search for another brand cable to avoid that imperfection, so when you buy a new cable you should be sure that the cable is well casted with socket.

    My old bad story with apple that I have iphone 4 before I my 5 one, suddenly when it is in my bosket I feel there is heat inside it, and the phone become very hot and the metal side approximately burned my hand, I can’t even touch it to close, a warning triangle colored yellow appear informing that I should close for the high temperature. I lost this phone and sell it with too cheap price.

    my iphone 5 charger will not work at all no matter if i bend it or push it in! now the rubber has come away from the end and the wire is sparking. i Have had every iphone thats ever been out and never had problems with the charger. why change it? im not happy and am looking for a way in which this problem can be reasolved with out me having to pay for a new one due to your poor design and manufactoring!

    Mine had tons of lint in it. I Cleaned it out with a pick seems to work fine. Glad it did the one year warnanty just expired.

    I have the same problem in my iPhone 5 with iOS 7.0.2


    It does not charge right from the wall socket using the original lightning cable and original wall charger. I have 2 original wall chargers and neither both charge my phone. I used another non genuine lightning cable and the iPhone recognized that it was not an original cable but did not charge. I have an iPad mini with iOS 7 and it charges very well with any combination of chargers and cables.


    The phone charge very well from my Macbook Pro late 2012 usb with both cables with no problem. The iPhone 5 just won't charge from the power socket, I don't understand what's happening!!

    My issue is that the lightening connector plug won't go into the socket on my iPhone so it does not click in place? I have 3 cables and have tried them all with the same result , so am unable to charge my phone ? I live in Pakistan and have no apple store in my country ANY SUGGESTIONS ANY ONE

    This is wierd! at least to ma as an engineer. I changed the head to my old IPhone4s and it worked!


    It wasn't the wire issue, because when I connected it to my computer USB port, it didn't work.

    CLEAN OUT THE LINT!..........until you clearly see the base of the connector socket on the phone...use a flashlight if you have to.



    Then, if you are running IOS7 on your iPhone5 be sure the cable is  'certified' or you'll get a msg from the OS telling you that you should have paid $19.99 for the cable from Apple or from a 3rd party who had licenced the lightning cable chip technology and become 'certified' before selling it like all those cheap ones I bought that now don't work right anymore.

    i have a iphone 5 and since yesterday it wont charge..i tried two other iphone 5 cables not charging.

    I think its a problem from the phone itself.

    I live in the uk and the nearest apple store is a little far.

    Will they exchange my equipment?

    I have used 3 non-apple charge cords made for Apple, one Rocket Fish from Best Buy, another one from TJ Maxx and one recommended charger from the Sprint Store.  All 3 initially worked for a period of  a few weeks before they stopped working.  All cords except for the Rocket Fish started out with a message that "This cable is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone".  Eventually the Rocket Fish one gave the same message before it stopped working.  I see several cases where people say they bought a new charger and everything was good, but we have had the same experience only to have the charger stop working again.  It would seem that there is a compatibility issue with these chargers and the phone.  It seems highly unlikely that I have 3 broken cords.  Anybody else with similar experiences?

    I have the iPhone 5...I was down to about 8% when I plugged it in several days ago. There was no lint and no obstructions in the port whatsoever, and then I went to make a phone call. As soon as it started ringing on my end, I heard a "low battery" noise play through the earpiece (creepy noise, too - reminded me of the noise in the movie "Crank" when the guy was dying). I looked at the phone, and it had stopped charging, even though it was charging fine when I had just plugged it in. So, I decided to do what anyone else would do - switch cables/sockets/USB power adapters, etc. Nothing worked, except, RANDOMLY, and only once, my wife's Belkin Apple-Certified USB-to-Lightning cable. The next morning, I had full battery, but was unable to charge the following night, no matter what. What's even stranger is that, if you leave it plugged in all day, it trickle-charges about 1% an hour, but with no "lightning bolt" symbol visible. Apple is admitting it's a hardware issue, and has ordered a new iPhone 5 for me. In the meantime, I'm without a phone, and on a waiting list. Be aware, though...there's definitely some glitch they're going to have to address. It's not necessarily lint, a bad power adapter, nor a bad cable.
