Q: Problem with waking from sleep with 10.8.2

My Mac Pro (early 2009 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon) won't wake from deep sleep after installing OS X 10.8.2 . I have the default setting set for sleep. The only way to "wake" the machine is to hold the power button down to shut down and then restart. I've reset NVRAM (pram) and tried removing power cable. Nothing helps.

    Hello Everyone,

I have the same problem: MBP Mid-2010, running OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2

Apple just released an SMC Firmware update that I highly recommend you install:

    http://9to5mac.com/2013/01/30/apple-releases-macbook-smc-firmware-updates-fixing -rare-battery-issue/

*Even though i don't have over 1000 battery cycles, we have nothing to lose at this point.

-Will report back on the status of the issue

So far everything is working properly.

I've waked my MBP about 5 times since the update and haven't had it shut down on me.

The issue is spontaneous and is better on some days than other so I'll give it a few days at least.

    Mac Pro 2008

Still no solution. Upgraded GeForce 120 driver to latest from NVIDIA.

I could force machine to sleep / wake up.

When left to own devices, machine will sleep but not wake up.

    This is SO frustrating.

Hello everybody, I have the solution.

This program change the default configuration, open your terminal and type

    pmset -g | grep hibernatemode

This option display your configuration of sleep mode, the default is 3. The program make 5

For back to 3, just type in your terminal

    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 3

    And congratulations!!!

    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 3

Agora é só baixar a tela e parabéns !!!! Tudo deve voltar ao normal.

I'm remember now, you can hibernate changing the number to 25

    Type in your terminal

    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 25

Eu lembrei agora, você pode alterar para hibernar facilmente, abra seu terminal e digite

    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 25

Pronto! Só fechar a tampa e ele vai hibernar

No fixes as of now. Interesting that you're having the problem on 10.7.5 since it's most common in 10.8.2.

Send your feedback to Apple in hopes that they'll fix it very soon.

    Rob (bonfire),

This was exactly my issue. Thanks for tracking down those log files and the new driver.

For documentation purposes, I upgraded from 10.7 to 10.8.2 and had the problem described—the computer woke into "dark wake" two hours after having been put to sleep, but became unresponsive. I hadn't made any changes to wake on LAN settings. The log on my machine was very similar to what Rob posted.

Upgrading the video drivers to the ones listed solved the problem, no further steps necessary.

It'll be interesting to see if this is addressed in 10.8.3.

    Hello,

Just found out that on an iMac Intel model early 2008

OS-X 10.8.2 (fresh install) also gives a sleep mode buck.

I tested the same iMac with 10.7.5 and 10.6.8 and no wake up problems.

So this is definately a bug in 10.8.2

When the computer is in sleep mode and I wake up the iMac,

I see a double (stereo) distorted screen.

Changing the hibernate mode unfortunately won't help.

Change the resolution to a lower level and than back to normal won't help.

I cannot stop the 'stereo' distorted screen, untill I restart the iMac.

    TEMPORARY SOLUTION

To temporary solve sleep mode problems in 10.8.2 with every Mac,

is to change the sleep mode of the iMac into 'never'.

    Best regards,

    Danny

I know this is mostly about the 10.8.2 update bug, but I'm on 10.7.5 and still have the "wake from sleep" issue....I've played with the sleep settings, I had it on NEVER at first, then this issue started, so I changed it to 3 HRS, and it started to work fine again -- for about 2 weeks. Now it's back to not waking up again, but it's not consistant, it's a crap shoot whether it will wake up or not. Not sure if this is related, but I know my battery is 3 years old and probably needs replacing soon, but it still charges fine and has the same run time as it always had. Anyone else have this problem on 10.7.5?

    ~Billy
