iphone 5 wont stay connected to wifi

My iPhone 5 keeps dropping wifi connection after about 30 seconds of being connected. It's not my router or internet because we bought 2 phones and the other phone works and stays connected just fine. It's only my phone. It tries to connect to a website, youtube, email, whatever and then just times out. If I attempt to renew the lease it renews with some strange IP address that isn't tied to my router and leaves the Router and DNS fields blank. I have reformatted, reset network settings, reinstalled the OS, forgotten the access point and re-entered, changed the wifi channel for troubleshooting steps so far. Any further ideas other than a bad antenna?

Very similar and very frustrating problem. My regular wifi connections (which are up to date and very fast) will onl work if I'm literally no more than 5 feet away from the router. If I'm farther than that it disconnects and won't even find it! My iPhone 4S still works and connects perfectly from anywhere in the house.

I got my iphone about 2 weeks ago- the first night i got home it connected to my wifi just fine. My friend with an iphone 4s was over that night and connected to my wifi as well. Ever since that night my phone never stays connected to my wifi. I know that it is not a router issue (i have a brand new router set up by a director of IT) and my wifi works fine all the time with my laptop. My phone has not reconnected to my wifi even once since that first night. It tries whenever I'm in my house (in the wifi zone) which of course then just eats at my battery but is never able to. My friend with the 4s is able to connect to my wifi just fine at my place.

I've tried everything this forum has previously mentioned, including resetting my network and phone settings, and toggling those different options. This is my first iphone and I must say I am not impressed so far, and am considering switching back to a droid. Can anyone help me resolve this issue and fast?

Thanks!

Olivers7 - Does the phone connect to other Wifi networks? Have you tried to add your Wifi 'manually' and see if it connects?

If it wont connect to any Wifi, then most likely you have a faulty phone. Connecting things to Wifi should be pretty easy, scan, password, connect. (Otherwise take it to the apple store and see if they can figure something out, don't waist more time if adding it manually does not work.)

Apart from the Wifi issues which I seemed to have fixed by adding it manually.

I have put the settings the same as my Iphone 4. But still have 1 day of standby usage, the battery will be down to 45%, where as my iphone 4 sits here on standby (waiting for it's new prepaid SIM card), because I updated my iphone postpaid to the ipone 5. Iphone 4 sits at 80%

I haven't had the opportunity to connect to any other wifi networks that I am aware of, but if I was near any open ones it did not connect. My wifi at my place is working fine by two other iPhone 4 and 4s users at this very moment. I did also try adding it manually (that was one of the earlier suggestions in this forum too) and it did not work either.

How would apple deal with a faulty phone? I didn't buy my phone from apple and the nearest apple store to me is over an hour or more away, so at this point I'm at a loss for what to do.

Apple would test the phone and if found faulty they would replace it if under warranty.

If you did not buy your phone from apple, then I assume your got if via a mobile phone provider? Contact them.

If you purchased it via means where the warranty will not cover your phone, then I don't know.

I bought mine from my mobile telco provider via contract, (Optus) in Australia. If I had an issue I would take it to the optus store, they would check it there, and if faulty give me a new one, or replacement while the new one is coming.

I also bought the montly insurance on my phone via the telco contract, so it makes it even easier when things get broken or stolen.

It just depends then where and how you got your phone.

You really need to try and connect to another Wifi to determine if the Wifi is broken on your phone.

Hey! I just had this problem and got it resolved by doing the following:

To go settings...wifi...click on the blue arrow beside your wifi name. Click on Forget this network.

Then go to settings...general...reset....and click on reset network settings. This will reboot your phone.

Once your phone start up again....go to settings....wifi...and click on your home wifi to reconnect again. This should work like a charm.

Hope this helps!

I've just upgraded to 6.0.1, which claims to fix wi-fi issues.

Suffice it to say, it does NOT. I am *extremely* frustrated - this has been a well-documented issue since day one, and I am absolutely appalled that the *same* problem exists even with the new version of iOS.

Any new ideas, anyone? Apart from banging my head against a brick wall, that is?

I am having the same problem with my new iphone 5. A classic example happened this morning over breakfast at Panera Bread. They have wifi available at the restaurant and my wife's iphone 4 and my iPad3 picked up the wifi signal immediately. However, my cutting edge iphone 5 was not even showing a wi fi signal available at the restaurant! I'm starting to think Apple has ijumped the iShark!
