iphone 5 wont stay connected to wifi

My iPhone 5 keeps dropping wifi connection after about 30 seconds of being connected. It's not my router or internet because we bought 2 phones and the other phone works and stays connected just fine. It's only my phone. It tries to connect to a website, youtube, email, whatever and then just times out. If I attempt to renew the lease it renews with some strange IP address that isn't tied to my router and leaves the Router and DNS fields blank. I have reformatted, reset network settings, reinstalled the OS, forgotten the access point and re-entered, changed the wifi channel for troubleshooting steps so far. Any further ideas other than a bad antenna?

Very similar and very frustrating problem. My regular wifi connections (which are up to date and very fast) will onl work if I'm literally no more than 5 feet away from the router. If I'm farther than that it disconnects and won't even find it! My iPhone 4S still works and connects perfectly from anywhere in the house.

nope the update has not fixed it for me. sorry but this is just the latest in their treatment of us that says they couldnt care less. with all their money how hard is it to ensure their kit maintains connection with wifi - i have no problems with ipads, iphone4 or ipods in the house. The 'genius' bar denied all knowledge when i went in a few weeks ago about it.

I was already falling out of love with Apple and i think this signals divorce for me.

Ok, So here is what i have determined after a month of trying to sort this ridiculous issue out with a friend of mine thats in IT who set up my routers here at home and my parents.

It turns out that its a WEP issue and an SSID issue. So your going to probably need to change from WEP security on your router to WPA etc

He also mentioned that the phone does not like a long preamble ( i am sorry i have no idea what this is), so he shortned it.

Apparently the phone does not networks with names that have a lot of spaces in the name. For example mine was K & T Home. So after all the above have been changed, this along with the WEP security remained unchanged, as soon as he changed the WEP, and the SSID to something simple like Home .. it started working.

However these phones will not stay connected to wifi once they are put to sleep. I see no way to resolve this issue.

I hope this makes sense, im tired and im sick.

Merry Christmas

We have 2 iPhone 4 of differing age and an ipad2 (recently replaced under warranty) all had the same problem as discussed.

We tried pretty much everything ftom network resets to full resets, router resets etc. no joy.

Our network has a one word lower case name and no security. We live quite secluded.

The only thing that worked for all 3 devices And still works, is where you turn off wifi and setup your home network using 'Other' option. We found that 'Forget Network' also comes back.

We can now leave the house and return, and put the devices to sleep and each time they re/stay connected.

None of these tips worked

  1. reset network
  2. toggle cellular on/off, 3g on/off
  3. reset to factory

I cannot set my home or corporate wifi to lesser security. Apple - PLEASE FIX this mess...😠 or send the billing address where I can send my LTE and 3G data charges too...

UnHappy SOUTH Africans on this side...5 x iPhone 5s giving the same issue and one working...seriously...less than 20% manufacturers success...

Had the same issue but not immediately after getting the phone. Called service and went through the same thing everyone else has tried. Finally they sent me a new phone and it did the same thing. All other devices were working fine in my house. We Have 2 other iPhone 5's, iPad, iPods. Finally my son just flippantly said "try it without the case on it". Yep, that was all it was for me. Freaking plastic case blocked my wifi to the degree it couldn't maintain connectivity. No problems anymore and it's been 3 days. Hope this helps at least a few of you guys. I got the case about a week after the phone, hence the delay in issue.
