ok, so the fact that this post has had over 52k views must be saying something, but no, still silence from Apple.  All other Apple products in the house are fine just this stupid iphone5, and i can say i will not be buying another Apple product. Had enough.

THIS WORKS.  Choose Other for your network, enter home wifi info, carry on.

i have noticed today that if i turn off my mobile data when at home with my wifi, it does not drop when the screen lock comes on.  so suggests that when the handset goes to sleep the mobile data takes priority.  not a fix, more an observation seeing that Apple are ignoring it and we appear to be having to find our own solution

I just bought my iphone 5 from Sprint last week. As of yesterday the wi fi no longer connects to my home network. I have restarted my phone and my modem and still nothing. Both my iphone 4 and ipad connect without any issue.

Did you recently put a case on it? Mine worked fine til I got my case. Took awhile to realize it but moment I removed case wifi worked perfectly. New case different material and continues to work fine.

QT I did add a new clear case to my 5 but before I read this message I called Sprint. When I called Sprint they had me enter a code to refresh service when I did my phone connected to wifi right away and I haven't had an issue since. I am glad it finally worked as I can now download apps again thanks for the help everyone, I appreciate it.

I know that everyone's experience with the Iphone 5 connectivity issue is different but here's what I have to offer for what it's worth.  I purchased 4 Iphone 5's on 12/26/12 replacing two Iphone 4's and two other non Iphone devices.  I connected my Iphone 5 and it remained connected when I was at home.  When I left the house and returned it connected automatically as it should.  However, the other Iphone 5's would connect for a short time then drop the connection after a few minutes.  I tried several things with no success and I even disconnected the Iphone 5 that was remaining connected to see if any of the others would connect and stay connected.  I could not get any of the Iphone 5's to remain connected after that.  Even the one that originally stayed connected.  I called Apple support and tried the things they said to try with no luck.  So I went to Best Buy (I know, love them or hate them I was desperate) but my thinking was that I had a router issue.  I talked with one of the Geek guys, (nothing deragortary, they call themselves The Geek Squad, right? so I think I'm OK).  I got lucky and the guy was very knowledgable.  I had a Netgear N600 router.  It turns out that this router has limitations.  For example, the 600 designation means that it will support up to 6 wireless devices.  Well, over time things get added and you don't really think about at the time but what's happening it you gradually and eventually put the routers capability over the limit.  It can't handle all of the devices so it starts dropping some devices in order to keep others connected.  That's what was happening in my case.  So I bought a Netgear 72 big bad multi device, 4 times more powerful router than my Netgear N600.  The thing cost $200 but it fixed my problem.  I have connected all of my devices and all of my Iphone 5's and they have not yet dropped.  I left the house with two of the Iphone 5's and when I returned they automatically connected when I got to my driveway.  Bottom line, in my case it's all about router power.  I want to stress that this is my case only and may not be the issue with some of the other blogs I've seen but I hope this may help someone with the issues they are having.

Just to be clear...I want to make sure I am understanding the thread properly.

There seem to be two different issues being addressed:

    1) Maintaining a wifi connection in the sense that you completely lose the connection and have to reattach.

    2) When the phone goes to sleep it uses the cellular network (in my case LTE) even though it is connected to wifi and thereby is leaking data from your cellular plan when it should be using wifi.

    Is this a correct interpretation?

We have problem #2.  iOS 6.02 helped the problem, it does not pull in as much data over cellular when connected to wifi but it still burns data.

I have not heard of any solution.  Have a few more days to return the phones, not sure what to do.  We may be able to live with it within our data limits--kind of hard to tell as our data counter is all messed up at Verizon--have a technical ticket on it..  Also, not sure if it is something Apple will or can fix--will another software update correct or is it too integral to the phone to be corrected until the iphone 5s or 6?

Yes, thats a pretty accurate summary.  Problem 1 was solved for me by resetting my network connections but problem 2 persisted, even after the 6.0.2 update.

I spent 2 hours on the phone to their support people on Monday (I still have phone support for a week or so). They genuinely appeared not to be aware of the problem and escalated it to their 2nd line support who also didn't appear to know about it. He talked me through a complete restore to factory settings and rebuild. Unfortunately the problem still persisted.

Essentially I had to turn off mobile data when at home and that solved the problem - it didn't drop it out. But this was a pain and not what I bought the phone for - apple agreed this was not acceptable.

He has therefore arranged for a courier to visit me tomorrow and swop it out. He waived the usual £30 charge for this although did take a holding payment on my credit card of over £500 which they will refund when they receive my old phone back.

This time tomorrow I should know whether it is resolved.

Thanks for the info.  Let us know what happens tomorrow.

Turing off cellular works and solves the problem... but as you state that's not why I buy a premium phone, it should be amazing or whatever that term is Steve Jobs would always say!

I have taken delivery of a new handset. Early indications are that it has the same problem is the last.
