Scuffs/Scratches On New iPhone 5 Right Out Of The Box

Good shot. Mine has a scratch that shows the silver under the glass. From the looks of it we're going to see more posts with the iPhone having a chip or scratch or both. I can live with it but as you I do take care of my electronics. Still it's annoying.

Same here. Black iPhone 32GB fresh out of the box and it has a scuff/nick right on the bottom. My daughter's iPhone 5 has small white dots in the plastic on the back.

Quality control is slipping again.

Other than that, blazingly fast and supremely light. Nice update!

Just opened my iPhone 5. I have to nicks at the very top. Disappointed.

Same problem here, I got a pretty deep dent on the bezel, I went to Apple store this evening, they gave me a replacement. After I get home I discovered that there is a 2.5cm scratch mark on my screen. I made an apointment on Sunday, I will refund it.

I have a scratch on mine, right side by the glass. Really disappointed but a case hides it well. Apple really promoted the craftsmanship of this phone in their iPhone 5 video on their web page and showed some of the assembly process. I hope they will offer exchanges once stock is available.

I just opened the two iPhone 5's that arrived today. One definately has a rough dent on the bottom of the backcase which exposes the underlying aluminum.

Took a picture with my iPad to time and date stamp it. Will need to go into Apple Store tomorrow. Oh, joy.

I exchanged for a new phone after the first one have 4 dents on the edge. Then this new one started to have scratches on the bevel again. It is possible that their anodizing process of whatever this metal is to the aluminum does not adheres or bonded properly. I probably am going to return the phone and buy a galaxy 3 instead. The new map also look horrible. It looks like the first generation of tom-tom. I am so disappointed with the new apple after Steve Jobs.

This gouge is bigger than anything on my 2+ year old iPhone 4, and I did not use a case with that phone!

Haha, like everyone else, that spot glitters when the light reflects upon it. When I took the shot it just so happened to be in the shadow. But I have an appointment with the Genius Bar this Monday, hope they will replace for me and not think that I nicked it myself.

I have to wait til Monday, but would be interested to see what they will do, keep us posted!

Yeah i noticed a small scuff on the bottom of the phone right near the charging port. worse comes to wose i can live with it but i just think its unacceptable especially coming from apple. keep us posted and let us know if you get the exchange.

Gosh, both of my iphones that I got today have this problem...Im surprised it's so widespread. I dont see them doing anything about it since there is no way to separate the people who actually have this problem and those who dropped their phone...

I have yet to receive my iphone 5, so I'll have to check the damage during unboxing. I did buy a brand new MacBook Pro Mid 2012, and it has a similar nick right above the headphone jack. I think this has a lot to do with the cutters losing their sharpness as they trim the aluminum.

Wow ... I started another thread and I thought that it was only me. I ordered mines through ATT and I have two small nicks and the powder coated aluminum also has a blemish. Upon closer inspection, there is a nick by the glass which is impossible if it was handled by someone to get. I thought these things were precision milled and have good quality control.

Are that scratches about black body only? Has somebody issues on white?

I'm going to buy 5 iPhone but it seems that white is better now.
