Purchased iPhone 5 a few days ago. Took it out of the box and there is a scratch running across the top of the phone.
I tried to ignore it but I think I'm going to exchange it today. I had an iPhone 4--never had a scratch.
When I exchange it I'm going to inspect the new phone before I leave the store.
It wouldn't be a big deal for something that I spent a few dollars on.
But I think if you spend a couple hundred dollars on a phone, it should be in pristine condition out of the box.
I got the replacement from Asurion today and its pretty mint! a very very tiny tiny hair thick scratch on the back bottom left corner but its almost not visible at all! I can say im pretty happy with it! plus i get to keep the earpods and the charger so ill have two chargers and to earpods and two boxes.
Thats an ugly scratch man. I would take it back if i was you. Better luck next time
Add me to the list. I've had two iPhone 5's (att and verizon's stock) arrive and both were scratched and nicked/chipped from the factory straight out of the box. Taking the second one back to the Apple Store to see about getting a replacement phone. BAD QUALITY control. Who was in charge of evaluating the materials...shame on you and the team.
I have not had any issues with the iPhone 3gs, MacBook Pro, and two The New iPads at all, so what gives?
I hope Apple get's it mojo back quickly.
First black Iphone 5 bought the 16th of November right out of the box with a small scratch on the edge.
the Apple store did not want to exchange it with a brand new one, only a refurb. I refused.
My operator change it the following day with a brand new retail box, the second one has a small scuff
on the volume down button.
Apple knows thes defects, but do not want to exchange them for brand new retail box.
They say you have to buy it from an Apple store.
Mine was bought from telecom shop with a phone contract.
Is there any issue for this.
Any help would be appreciated.
Bought the iPhone 5 in Thailand on November 1st at one of the telephone operator's launch event. I had to bring it back 2 days later as something inside was clearly moving, most probably the battery. The operator exchanged the phone no problem.
I thought all was good now that I had a new phone... no no. The following days I started noticing that the battery was draining extremelly fast and the screen was not probably in contact with the frame (perhaps glue problems... jeez Apple) which consequently made some clicking noise each time I touched the screen...Grrrr I went back to the operator for and exchange. They agreed to do so... and here comes the best part...
... They opened 2 boxes. Both telephones had visible scratches on the edges. Both were coming straight out of the boxes. I simply rejected them. So they asked me to wait for a week or two as it seems their policy doesn't allowed them to open more than 2 boxes when cosmetic reasons are invoked by the customer. No comment!
I waited 2 weeks. They called back saying a shipment had arrived. I went for the exchange. Since I was not in a good mood, they ended up opening 4 boxes, as the first 3 had visible scratches and scuffs. I took the 4th phone as it seemed the most scratch free (although not completely) and was really tired of this.
So, to sum it up... I saw 8 iPhone 5, none of which I can say were in prestine condition. Not even the last one, but what the ****, I will not spend one more second with this and anyways I am stuck as the operator refuses reimbursment...so I'm stuck.
Apple if you are reading this, I just want to say that I am extremelly disappointed with the iPhone5. Telling your customers that scratches "are normal" is simply disrespectful. Perhaps it's normal when you have your phone for a few weeks or months BUT not straight out of the box.
I have three dings on my white iphone 5 that I received about a month ago. I'd go return it, but I want to save my replacements for problems (I tend to always have issues) WELL, last night I discovered somewhat of a cure without replacing the phone ( I think this would only work on the white model). I took a fine jewelry cloth for buffing silver amd gold and literally the ding is pretty much gone (its on the side by the mute button) I continue to work with it and it disappears. I also applied toothpaste (be it CAREFULLY) and the ding is now just as shiny as the bezel!!! I will post pics if anyone is interested. I'm SHOCKED that this is even an issue. I also noticed two small marks on the silver back panel, but they cannot be seen by the naked eye or picked up in photos so I just stuck a back protector on and left it be. If it bugs me enough, ill replace it.
Remember I finally got a mint iPhone 5 by dealing with executive relations? Well I have noticed that all of the iPhone 5s I have had came with a pristine home button. However, after a couple of days, they appeared to be have small chips all around the home home button.
I wonder if the home button on the 5 is made of a different material becuase it chips rather easily. I avoid overusing the home button on my 5 becuase of how easily it chips. But anyway, its not a real issue for me. I just love using this phone.
Check your home buttons. Are they chipped as well?
Sometimes when I keep my cell in my pocket or in my scrubs at work it will collect dust around the edges of the home button that, in the right light, can look like chips or imperfections. But to answer your question, no, my home button has not chipped at all after over 2 weeks of moderate to heavy usage.
