you should definitely forward this pic to main stream blogs like gizmodo or something.. and on twitter. people should see that!

i'm more and more scary about my ordered phone arriving by the end of october.

do you guys think that the phones shipped by then will be "safe"?

i cant believe they are forever shipping this faulty batch!

That photo should definite be posted up on Gizmo

    That's shocking .....

And still no reply from Apple

    I'm the same.

I've put off getting my i5 till early November (decided to do soomething else with my last months pay)

hoping that things will be sorted out by then.

    But lets analyse the probability...

    1. A fundimental feature of the i5 is that it is super leightweight. - The powers that be all agree, money is spent on design and research.

    2. In order to make the i5 super leightweight Apple have chosen to use aluminium for part of the build - All agree, money is spent on production. Now as far as apple are concerned the build is all sorted now onto the cosmetics.

    3. To colour the aluminium Apple have adopted a level of paint process called Oxidization (pls correct me if i'm wrong) - All agree and money is spent on further production.

    4. Early results may have shown scuffing, peeling and scratching to the first complete handsets off the production line - The powers that be know it boils down to the design/implementation but with deadlines looming and money already spent decide to go full steam ahead in the light of the prior share price drop after announcing the last incremental upgrade known as the iphone 4s, Samsung SIII now starting to out sell iphones in Europe and else where and also the constant demand for a complete new version of iphone from consumers.

    5. The iphone 5 is launched with damage control in place to douse the backlash whilst they think how to firstly see if they can dodge calls to retify the issues and if not, secondly fix it with minimum impact to profits, reputation and time.

In short I don't think they will re-design aspects of te i5 but will perhaps look to improve the level of this Oxidization (again, please correct me if I have the term wrong) Whether they can agree to this, implement it then distribute the improved handsets to awaiting customers in the near future remains to be seen

    .... But I doubt it

but no one answered my question, what do you gues think about production times... hoping that the scuff/ scratch issues must be resolved by now in production... how long do you think is the production/delivery time?

how long does it take from the moment they solved production problems to the moment that they actually ship these?

do you think that iphones shipping in 3/4 weeks already exist so ight be faulty, or phones to be shipped in 3/4 weeks are yet to be produced and will be free of scuffs?

does anybody know how long does it take from the moment the iphone is being produced to the time it is shipped?

does it ship from china directly or it passes by USA or Europe wharehouse according to the final destination?

I can understand your concern and frustration but in short no-one knows exactly how long as there are too many variables in between to determine the correct amount of time, as we have mentioned above - awareness, accountability, funding, implementation, production, shipping, etc

I think your basiically asking if you will get one of the existing "faulty" batch of i5s and to be very honest all signs are unfortunatley pointing to the event that you may well do so, as well as everyone else wh has ordered and expecting an i5 in the near future.

But if you do or you don't it's not the end, you still have a consumers warrenty/gaurantee. Plus in forums like this, alot of visibility is shown to such issues which makes awareness and rectification more certain

At launch apple were shipping their own retail customer stock direct from china so as soon as the handsets were manufactured they were being shipped.

My iPhone 5 from three that was purchased at launch was a week 36 (September 2012) manufacturing batch. As week 36 is the first week in September it's looking like a 2 week turnaround going from manufacturing to the customer getting the handsets in their hands.

If apple have solved the issue then the blemish free handsets should arrive in stock in the next 2 - 3 weeks. According to the email leak from Foxconn (on YouTube) the problem is to do with the batch manufacturing process and sometime in mid October this is getting changed to a mass production process that should eliminate the manufacturing defects.

If this is the case then the handsets from this new mass production process should start to trickle through to customers by the end of October to the beginning of November.

In the meantime stock seems to really limited and as such most retailers can't offer replacements and the ones apple seem to be giving out seem to suffer with the same scuff issues.

Not sure about Gizmo but I think the pic is already finding it's way around different forums like the site I mapped it

    from.

I was a little cautious about distributing it as I couldn't deem it was authentic even though there is alot of posts about the Apple rep giving that statement. But it looks genuine enough.

As for Apple replying I don't think we'll get much more than what has already been aired, again their sticking to the 'Plausible deniability' card so I can't see them doing a u-turn now. They may just quietly upgrade the paint job to all models in the furture if or when they decide to, then say case closed to "ScuffGate"

After I posted this am I sent the pic to my phone company who immediately called me to have it returned and I pick up a new one.   When I got to the store an Apple rep was around making sure all was good... I Love, love Apple....

Listen all of you out there worried about scratches, defects in your new iPhone 5:  I too was worried since I ordered a black one on the day of release.  When I got my phone, I put on a real time clock in the background and took pictures of the entire process opening the box in case there was a defect in the phone.  Unfortunately, I found a very small nick in the bezel of the iPhone.  It was so small that I didn't see it at first but I could snag my fingernail on the chip so it annoyed me.  After reading this very thread, I was tempted to call it insignificant because I worried that a replacement could be worse.  DON'T BE HARRASSED into believing this.  After a couple of hours of lamenting about whether to call Apple for a replacement, I decided that after paying $920 for a phone, it should be perfect out of the box.  If I scratch it the next day, that would be MY scratch.

Apple was extremely professional, took my complaint down, and issued a replacement and RMA within 24 hours.  I received the replacement (new in box) within about a week. When I received the new one, I was scared to open the box, but repeated the photo documentation until I realized that the new iPhone was perfect.

I know several people who have purchased black and white iPhone 5's recently and not a single one got a chipped or scratched iPhone.  If you have bad luck and get one, don't worry; Apple will make it right.

    Keep the faith.

Just an update on the replacement of my first iPhone 5 64Gb Black replacement. Disappointing news.

Apple Support (phone) initially told me that a new replacement (complete - no white box) would be sent out to me and that I could keep my damaged phone until I received my new one. Shortly after I get an email with a pre-paid shipping label instructing me to send in my phone within 14-days. To double-check, I asked them to verify that I could hold on to my old phone until the new replacement arrived. They then said no and that the new phone would only be sent out after receiving my old unit.

So I think I'm going to return this unit for a full refund since I'm within my 30-days, and then try to buy a new unit a few weeeks from now after the dust on all of this settles.

New Update:  My company received a new black from AT&T which arrived at the apple store today. It is flawless! No scratches, all in perfect condition.

So, I have looked at four iPhone 5s so far. 1 White and 4 black, all from ATT except 1 black from Verizon. With exception of the 1 AT&T black, all were in perfect condition. So in my own personal experience, I am thinking the problem is limited to a specific batch or shipment. In any case, Apple is producing perfect condition handsets as I've witnessed them.

This said, I'm sending my AT&T Black nicked unit back and will order a new one later.
