    Apple just deleted my response. I had a long written reply about my experience and how ****** off I am and now it's gone.


    Gotta love Apple, burrying the evidence because it's STILL ONGOING AND THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO BELIEVE IT.

    I hear apple lost the latest patent battle with Giants SAMSUNG. Sky says they would need to publicly apologise too. Ha!


    When they do i'll take the apology as an apology for all the flaws with the iphone 5 too

    Sounds like you work for Apple or you don't have an iPhone 5 and are just making it up...  in no way, shape or form can you say that an iPhone 5 fell and did not scratch.  total BS!

    So kinda like that guy... he says he has 2 perfect iPhone 5s and really doesn't and yet he is on the Apple support forum under  Scuffs/Scratches On New iPhone 5 Right Out Of The Box for no reason other then to brag about how perfect his iPhones are (that he doesn even have)? LOL

    I visited the local Apple Store today and took a look at all their black display units. Whether or not they were defective from new is unknown, but every single unit had silver marks showing from where the black coating had come off in a number of different places. I don't see how that sharp chamfer edge is going to avoid it in time. Apple not only need to improve QC, but they need to rethink materials and coating techniques.


    While I love the black design, I've decided to ask for a white replacement to reduce the chance of in-box defects and long-term degradation. Thankfully Apple Customer Support have been very good to me.

    I believe that resale/trade-in value on places like will not be very good, considering that visual appearance & condition play a huge factor in placing a value on the phone to be turned in. If they're coming from the factory already scratched, this cannot be a good thing in this regard.


    If they're looking two years old after two months of use...

    I don't work for Apple.  I wish I did because then I would be very rich.


    The scratch was a tiny chip in the paint in the bezel that was so small I missed it at first.  I was embarrassed to ask for a replacement, but being OCD, as many of you obviously are, I did, and Applecare shipped a new one in a week.  I was so paranoid from reading this thread that I was going to get another scratched one worse than the first, I did not ship back the first one until I saw the condition of the second.  I took time stamped pictures of the unwrapping of both phones in case it was damaged out of the box, again because of this thread.  I went over all edges by inspection and with my finger in case I couldn't see a defect.  I then removed the film and further inspected each side.  I did the full screen pixel test in five (?) colors, the shake test, the light leak test, PERFECT.  It really was!


    I did drop the phone in the car. It slipped out of my pocket because it is so slick (uncased).  It did not scratch.  I was really worried, again because of this thread.  I even sent back an Incipio case because I thought the case was so stiff it would scratch the phone. That's why I had no case for a week. It is now safely in a Speck candyshell.


    I just received my wife's phone and was ultra paranoid that I just got lucky, and repeated the above looking for scratches.  It also was PERFECT.  I haven't done the pixel test yet (tonight).


    The fact that the lashing out at me is so similar to those stock boards leads me to believe that there are paid bashers on this board to scare the would be buyer away.  I had a Galaxy Nexus for 5 months.  It was crap.  The apps were crap comared to the iPhone similar app (e.g., CNBC, beat the traffic, even the Zippo app). The LTE was laggy even though the data speed was fast (latency on start up).  It actually took longer than an iPhone 4 many times to bring up data.


    I just wanted to let the paranoid buyers out there that maybe there are too many protesters out there and the story is not that bad.

    All I can say is, it's great that you got what many should've gotten in the first place...a new, perfect iPhone 5 without much hassle. There are many here that I see (just scanning the thread) that have been through so many exchanges. I really feel for those individuals but it also gives me a good feeling when reports like yours come in.

    Am back from the apple store.....


    Replacement number 6!!!!!!


    Two micro dot marks, slight abrasion where sim card tray goes in.


    Have accepted it. Life is just too short.


    Its as good as I am going to get.


    Manufactured in week 36 i know that much in Foxconn.

    I'm on my third 64GB black and it has one tiny shiny spot of the front edge and a little damage on the back where the glass meets the metal.


    I might just live with this one as I'm getting sick of trying to find a "Perfect" iPhone 5.

    Next step was going to go with the white version but with my luck it could be worst then what I have now.


    I give up !
