Lost Call Waiting with IOS 6 Upgrade

I have a user with this same issue. Also on the iPhone 4 iOS upgrade over the air. I read on another site a back up and restore fixed the issue, will give that a shot and post back the results.

A backup and restore through iTunes resolved the issue.

Luckily this user was syncronizing everything (Music, Photos, Apps, everything) through iTunes so it was not a difficult backup and restore, otherwise I would be careful if you manually manage these items.

The process took over an hour to complete, since it had to synchronize, download the iOS software, reset factory settings, restore from backup and synchronize again.

The ring tone setting didn't restore, but it seemed everything else did, but the user hasn't spent a lot of time on it at this point. Call Waiting/Caller ID was critical in this case it was worth the risk.

A backup and restore thru Itunes worked for me as well.

I saw this same problem on four iPhone 4s after the upgrade to iOS6. In the settings, under phone, there used to be menu options to turn call waiting and call forwarding on or off. They are gone now. I tried a backup and restore through iTunes. The phone menu items did not come back, but the caller ID and call wating seem to work again.

Also, on an AT&T iPhone 4s, the above mentioned menu items are there.

Just to follow up. After looking at some more phones, it seems the Verizon phone options are different from the AT&T model. Here are screenshots below from two iPhone 4Ss after upgrading to iOS6. Is it strange that the menus would be different?

Also after the backup and restore, the functioning of caller ID during a call returned. Later, the phone started to overheat (with corresponding fast battery drain). Verizon agreed to replace this phone.

After talking with both Verizon Tech Support and Apple Customer Care Support, they advised one of three options to solve this problem:

1 - Hold Home & Power button down until Apple appears on the screen for a system reset.

2 - In Settings, choose Reset All Settings.

3 - Full Restore of iPhone

Option 1 worked to get the call waiting to work again on an iPhone 4S after updating to iOS 6. Hope this helps.

I may have an easier solution. If you go to Settings- General- Reset- Reset Network Settings it will reboot the phone and it should be working from there. I have an iPhone 4s with Verizon and that did the trick.

Heys guys this was so refreshing to find some answers lol. Me and a Sgt. I work with both have the 4s and the home and power button reset thing worked on ours. Thanks for the info. By the way is anyone else getting a silly message when trying to call some people about the verizon customer you called is not available or service disconnected??? I have had this happen on several occasions and if I keep trying to call the number it evenutally goes through. My brother has cricket service and it still called him a verizon customer.

Is there anyway to get the Call Waiting back within restoring the phone?

Britt u just need to hold the home button and the top sleep mode button down until u see the apple and it will reset and work again. It's very simple and it worked for me. No need to back up your phone

So I tried that and all it did was turn my phone on and off, didn't help.

So I went and restored my phone back to factory settings and then used the backup from it...and still no call waiting option.
