iPhone 5 Home Button Issues

The home button on my iPhone 5 is hit and miss. Sometimes it works as normal and sometimes, it does nothing. I have tried the method of opening an app, putting it in shut down mode, and holding the home button down, and it seems to work for a bit, but then goes back to actiing like it did before. Anyone else having the same issues? Another trick to try?

iPhone5 White 32 GB. Home button did not work at all, out of the box. What a buzz kill.

Of course first thing I did brand new straight out of the box was to go through the set-up proceedure and then sync my new phone in iTunes to get all my music, apps, email and personal info. on the device before realizing the home button didn't work. (Don't need the home button at all until AFTER that point).

And... [Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time]

That's probably not a great suggestion when the issue is that the HOME button isn't working.

Having the exact same issue. I just got my iphone 5 yesterday and the home button was working perfectly for the first 5 hours and after that it randomly stopped working. It works on and off and is driving me crazy. I've heard you can take it back to apple and it will be replaced but will it still be replaced of you don't have apple care? I got my phone straight from Verizon so I never purchased apple care.

I'm having the same issue, reset did not fix it and a full restore did not fix it. 64GB black iphone5. I also know from past issues that Apple has some iPhones in stock for replacements even when they are sold out. Let me know if you guys get any more news with this issue.

This is indeed true - in addition they have what are called 'service replacements' that come in clam shells instead of the original packaging (usually these are refurbs but since the iPhone 5 just came out these are new and have the front/back shield guards on them still)...

Made an appt with Apple Genius, although it didn't take a genius to figure out the button don't work. One day old phone... completely covered for free replacement under regular warranty.

They replaced my original Sprint online ordered device with one of their store in stock replacements. Swapped the sim card from the original to the new phone (thereby making it a Sprint network phone). All was good EXCEPT that Sprint tech didn't seem to pay attention when I told him (per the Apple tech) the serial number must be changed in their system from the original device. We attempted different things for about two hours to activate the phone to no avail. He said I had to take it back to the Apple store "to check the software." I insisted something must be wrong at their end. A supervisor got on with me and I reiterated about the sim card switch and the need to change the serial number. The previous guy did not do it. The supervisor wasn't quite sure if he could. But voila, 5 minutes later I was activated.

Hope this saves the next person in a similar situation the time and aggravation.
