Q: iPhone 5 Home Button Issues

The home button on my iPhone 5 is hit and miss. Sometimes it works as normal and sometimes, it does nothing. I have tried the method of opening an app, putting it in shut down mode, and holding the home button down, and it seems to work for a bit, but then goes back to actiing like it did before. Anyone else having the same issues? Another trick to try?

My problem is quite different: maybe how thin the iPhone 5 is has made me wonder what's going on: for some reason my iPhone 5 "presses" the Home button even though I didn't touch the button - this happens whenever I touch the touchscreen, even when cleaning! And what happens is that the phone unexpectedly takes screenshots when I do not mean to! What's the problem??? I think mine's a different problem, but still quite serious...I've been owning my iPhone 5 for three months!

I kind of wonder...can too much immersion in water cause the screen to malfunction?

This was the problem that I'm having - and I think I found it - "take the screen off, remove the home button bracket, you will see a metal coin shaped spacer off center of the home button. With a tiny tiny drop of super glue on the end of a tooth pic glue the metal piece dead center of the home button, put the phone back together and its good as new and will never screw up again. You need the correct size and type screw driver to remove the screen" (http://www.youtube.com/all_comments?v=vYneY5iJD00) - can an Apple Store fix the problem? I hopefully so...

i hope this helps any and everyone, feel free to mail me if you need more details...

so my home button started acting up, im sure due to over use as i play or work on my phone all day long.

i noticed if i hit the top half of my home button it works and the bottom half seemed to be tougher.

so i opened her up, remove 2 screws by lightning connector [im ghetto used my pocket knife instead of a txx screwdriver i didnt have one small enough]

suction cup and a strait pin to pop it open from the bottom side carefully open to 90 degree angle.

then i lay it face down and set the bottom slightly angled to expose 1 of 2 home button screws, repeat process for 2nd screw

once you look you see the electrical pusher flip that aside and look at the back of the home button

for mine the silver dot was off center. to fix i just centered and reattached everything. it is clicking like brand freakin new now.

i hope this helps any cheapies that dont wanna buy another 500$ phone. if not well i tried

i would only do this if your out of warentee there is a chance something could break

although i dropped my phone lost a screw all while it was powered on, found a magnet found the screw and still had no issues.

I had the same problem with brand new iPhone 5. After nearly an hour on the phone with (very helpful) apple support who got me to reset the phone, the problem stayed. I went to a Genius at the Apple store in Sydney, Australia. Took the Genius about 10 seconds to realise it was hardware issue (I wish the phone support person figured it, and not waste my time trying to resolve software issues).

In the shop they wanted to replace " the module" for me. I insisted that it was a new phone and I wasn't happy about their proposed solution. The phone was brand new and I had bought it for cash from the Apple store, not some carrier bargain. They finally gave me a new phone on the spot, but not without a fight.

The new phone is working ok (day 2). I am happy with the outcome, but not with the process. Firstly that they are obviously aware of the problems but are happy to continue solving it instead of preventing it, thus causing wasted time an frustration to customers. Secondly that I had to fight for a replacement.

I have noticed intermittent home button issues happening after a year if use and after upgrading operating systems on iPhone 3G, 4, and 5.   Keyboards on $400 PC laptops last longer.  AHEM!

We just got an iphone 5 (refurbished) and it's having home button issues as well.

If I hold it down hard enough I can get it to respond but this phone is for my 65 year old mother and if it's already doing this out of the box I can only imagine a few months down the road.

Chances are this phone had this problem with someone else and it got cleaned up and sent to us without a proper fix. I get that it's refurbished but really.. don't half *** the fix and send it to someone else.
