A complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes and related software components is worth a try:

Thank you for the suggestion but as my post indicates, I have tried this multiple times. My Itunes worked fine right up until the upgrade.
Doublechecking. That was an uninstall of iTunes and all related software? Or just iTunes?
I have this same issue also. As for uninstalling all of the Apple software, my system tells me that Windows does not have sufficient permissions (I think) to uninstall or repair the Application Support files. Everything stops at that point, i cannot proceed with the uninstall. I can uninstall itunes, but not the related software. Like Illyrio, everything was fine until I tried to install the current update for itunes.
I have had this problem with Windows 7 and iTunes updates for some time. Each time it takes hours to solve but with the over the air upgrade to IOS6 on my iPhone and iPad, I was determined to solve and remember what I did, So here it is:

I hope this helps you and any other users.
Update your .netframe work to version 4 (see other help posts by apple support)
Follow the instructions on this link, basically un-install everything, remove programs that says they are made by apple inc. (using add remove program)
http://www.reimageplus.com/fix-windows-127-error/ (Many thanks to reimageplus.com)
You will also need to check and verify that the following folders have been removed:
dont forget to remove icloud alsoyou dont need to delete your itune music library though If any of these folders still exist, delete them along with their contents. (if you cant delete them, right click and go to properties and then security and change the control of the fold to you)do this for files under program files and program file (x86) on your computer once you have deleted everything, restart your computer. Then I repaired my registry using a registry repair program. Important:- instead of installing itunes I installed quick time, which installs apple application support (this is the corrupt file which is causing all the issues) i then installed itunes and it all worked fine, should take no longer than half hour to fix 🙂 hope this helps
Hi Flinneybee,
Thanks for the reply I am still experiencing the issue and I am blocked at the remove common files\apple directory, It will not give me permission to delete this folder. Can you please tell me exactly how to set the permission in Vista? I can't seem to get it right. Thanks.
No matter what I try I am getting the following error: An error occured when applying security information to: C:\...\Application support The Access control list structure (ACL) is invalid.
hi,
you need to right click on the folder you want to delete.
go to properties and security, then go to advanced and you will notice that system is the owner of the folder,
change the owner to yourself (you need to be the administrator to do this)
and click apply.
once you have done this you can delete the folder.
if you still cant figure it out, message back and I will help you once I get home from work (8 hrs)
with a step by step guide.
cheers
Thanks so much! This did the trick.
I am struggling to do this.
I have tried to get permission to remove c:\program......\common...\apple but I get a message of;
the action control list (ACL) structure is invalid.
All this because since trying to install the update to 10.7???
Now I can't install nor can I remove it from my computer to attempt a clean install of itunes.
This is driving me bonkers.
Please can anyone help me?
Thank you
Thanx finneybee, it worked for me 🙂
On the iTunes icon do shift+right click > run as administrator.
Worked like a charm.
😎
This same problem showed up in my computer around 12/1/12, and I've been working on it on my own as I am available. I have done everything in Flinneybee's post of 10/2 to correct this problem (albeit doing the uninstall/reinsall first and then updating the .NET to Version 4). Nothing has changed. (It may be unrelated, but at the same time my Adobe Flash program crashed, and repeated attempts to reinstall it appear to succeed until I restart the computer, at which point all of Flash disappears again.) Is there something else to be done to rescue my iTunes?😕
It worked! I've been muddling around with this problem for weeks, THANK YOU!!! 😀
Flinnybee's answer is the dogs - spot on m8e; with these instructions I was able to get back and working in about half an hour.
2 things to note which may be concearning folk.
If you follow the instructions - undelete all the apps, and delete all the files, when you get things re-installed and working all your settings, libraries and suchlike are all as before, in place and working. So nothing to worry about there.
Also on win7 64 (not sure about other op systems) the one apple program on the list I could not un-install was apple mobile device support. I continued with all the instruction despite not being able to remove this but it works regardless.
