Aspect ratio for iPhone 5 camera 4:3!!!

Is this a missed opportunity or is it something I am missing?

With the extra real estate in the screen of the iPhone 5 I was hoping the camera would make the most of this by having an appropriate aspect ratio (perhaps offering 16:9, 3:2 and 4:3 to suit people's preference). Having only 4:3 looks awful.

Full aspect is achieved when taking stills while shooting video, but it seems crazy to not have included this for the still camera too.

Is this something I am missing or is it something we will have to wait to be sorted in a future fix?

Just apart of Apple's stratergy. Leave something out to give people a reason to upgrade to the next iphone/ipad that comes along, Open your eyes people. I'm moving on... Time to get an Andriod phone me thinks.

I've had an iphone since the iphone3, even then it was the only mobile that couldnt send MMS, I'm so over Apple's hyped up rubbish, for the money they ask for these things we should be getting better products.

@ DonkeyKong 2006 There is nothing about Android OS that will encourage me to give up my substantial investment in apps store and iTunes purchases and there is no Android phone that is 'wow' enough to encourage me to change brands.

I also think you're dreaming in an imaginary world if you think that any OS developer or phone maker delivers to the full potential on the first iteration - incremental improvements are the business model for OS development. Apple, at least, provides these incremental changes regularly and consistently.

A question, though, why do you keep buying Apple products if you think they are "hyped up rubbish" - more to the point, why did you feel the need to impart this irrelevant piece of information here?

I also want to be able to take pictures in 16:9 aspect ratio, like my $250 Panasonic camera does. Looking at photos on an HDTV set with aspect ratio 16:9 is the best way to look at pictures - in my opinion. You can ether do this directly from an iPhone via AirPlay or you can do this from a Mac (or PC) via iTunes and the "Computers" menu on the Apple TV. This latter feature uses "Home Sharing". Either way, pictures taken by an iPhone do not fill the 16:9 screen; however, videos taken by the same iPhone do. Why can't Apple allow us to change the aspect ratio in 2014, whereas regular digital cameras have been able to do this for many many years?
